albanian woman merry serbian men Oct 21, 2007 Serbian – Albanian "love diplomacy" 21 October 2007 | 14:20 | Source: B92, Politika
SJENICA -- Politika reports about a social phenomenon developing in southwestern Serbia, where Serbian men marry Albanian women.
The daily writes that more than fifty Serbian men from the municipalities of Sjenica, Novi Pazar and Tutin have during the past year married Albanian women, mostly from that country's region of Scutari.
The mountainous area of Serbia has largely been depopulated due to harsh living conditions, with women migrating to towns in search of education, work and partners there, while men have traditionally stay to tend to their land.
Now, when they increasingly face a life with few opportunities to find wives and start families, local matchmakers have decided to bring together Albanian women and Serbian men, an unprecedented but apparently successful idea, happening against the backdrop of ethnic turmoil and hostility in the nearby province of Kosovo.
The parents of the Albanian girls first visit the families of their future sons-in-law, before they give consent to the marriage.
The girls are Christian, although Catholic, but that doesn't seem to bother local Orthodox priests any more than it does their husbands, the newspaper reports.
Many couples already have children, who will hopefully grow up in a region with less tension, where their mixed ethnicity will not make newspaper stories and bring reporters to their doors. www.topix.com/forum/world/serbia/TVVJE3QSG7H2M6IDM

Yea, I know of Albanians from Albania with Serb wives that got married after WWII. When politicians don't screw things up people marry those who live close by them. It has happened in the past and it will happen in the future. Lets hope for less tension in the future as the articles says.

Well people in Balkans have much more in common than differences. We usually focus on differences. B.t.w that new movie joint production Honeymoon has had some success lately in Toronto and Spain. www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091015/ART/710149948/1082/rssLet's face it, there are stereotypes about Serbs in Albania as well (no need to list them). It's not always vice-versa. But things are changing for the better.

I dated an Albanian girl a couple years back. She was 17 at the time and I was her first. We went out for almost 8 months and it ended on good terms. Had to pick her up/drop off a block away from her house because she didn't want her father finding out (got a bunch of Serb flags and crosses in my car lol) A few weeks ago I saw her at a Serb function, she was with a mate of mine from Serb sunday school. Looks like she enjoys the 'red, blue white' flavour haha Although this doesnt change my mind on Albanians, her father is a total dick who beat her (probably still does) and her brothers didnt seem to care.

Every Albanian has a story like that. Especially the encounter with the Chetnik father. I had mine as well. Although nothing happened out of it.

I dunno, not many Albs in Sydney, so its not like the two communities can either mix positively or clash (which is probably a good thing for the rest of the city)
Cant judge all Albanian girls by one, but are they all against using condoms? lol

I would only marry a Serb lady... i almost had a Serb adopted brother during the war....
The other balkan women don't have good reputation...especially after the fall of communism and their profession orientation in Greece..................

I think my family would be moe okay with me marrying Serb than I would. Then again, Im 100x more nationalistic than they are. I have made out with a Serbian bartender at a bar in College Point Queens. Very pretty girl, 1/4 Hungarian from Belgrade (althrough she said originally from some village in Vojvodina). Before anything happened we both had a drunk talk about how our people should re-conciliate and how there shouldnt be any beef. I just nodded 'yea' without paying much attention.
The father experience happened with me a long while back with a Bosnian girl I dated (Bosnian from Montenegro). I had to pick her up 2 blocks from her house and she ALWAYS had to leave with a close Albanian friend of hers since her father was THAT suspicious. So pretty much every time we went out there was a third wheel. This was way back in highschool, now she is married to some Muslim Albanian j-ass whose mentality is like her father's...
For the Serbian girl I found out later that she had an American fiancee and the relationship between the two of them was pretty much goin nowhere. She worked every other night 9pm-4am and he in the day. No time for boink boink.
However, for marriage... I think its a no-no. If I found out my daughter was dating a Serb Id be fine so long as I knew this was her teenage years. Outside of that I think I would lose it. Same with Greek.
But its more of an anti-Slav thing than anything else. No offense, but I think the idea of having a Slav son in law is anathema. Whether he is Muslim or Orthodox. Especially since I call Slavs 'rats' on a daily basis.

Btw, apparently this atrocity has become a business for a number of Albanians who organize the family selling off of a bride with some Serb who puts money out for a request. The guy then pays part of the cash to the family and keeps some as commission. These men then do all the organizing.
Impoverished villagers....

Non taken however its ironic that you call us Rats when you have just shown pure rat like behavior. That girl who talked about reconciling differences etc is 1 millions times better than some freakin Supak who nods like a cowardly opportunist. While I would never mind having a Son in law of any race as long as he was good to my daughter and made her happy, I would mind though and do everything in my power to stop it, if she dated and married a sneaky dishonest rat ...........But no offense.

Oh please, that girl got up the next day and shook off the 5-6 shots she took the night before and would become just as bad as me. Hatred and racism is not overt, that is unseemly. Hatred and racism are quiet and discreet. They lie deep within our hearts and are expressed only when its socially the most safe (close friends, ethnic kins, relatives, online forums etc. etc.). I live in a world where if I were to express such thoughts openly I would be castigated and isolated, even by those who probably share similar thoughts. I nod because doing anything else in a social environment is just wrong. You keep such thoughts to yourself.
I guarantee you that when she is around her Serbian friends or family and they begin going off on how barbaric the Siptar is, how how criminal, disgusting, savage, ugly he is she nods just as I did. Thats how it all works.

and do you ask yourself why you would be castigated and isolated ? considering in any open discussion, Murderous monsters, rapists, phsycos individuals or groups etc are openly condemned without fear of castigation or isolation ? Is it because your views are racist and mindless hatred ?

Ofcourse! Racism is mindless, and so is hatred. It is based on generalized ideas which cannot be applied to any individual context. Ultimately I have to admit that we are not our ethnicities, we are ourselves. Each of us carry a plethora of characteristics that separate us from everyone else (family kins or ethnic kins).
I am perfectly willing to admit that there is a huge hypocrisy here. That in the end hatred is so irrational to many of us here who bear it that we will never admit to it, no matter how uncomfortable we may feel. We live in a social world, especially those in the US or Europe, that does not tolerate the mentality we carry from the Balkans nor can we say that it is possible to apply a general emotional reaction to a social world based on individual interaction.
Hatred cannot reconcile the fact that when I shake hands with a Serb, I don't "shake hands with a Serb", I shake hands with a human being, and with that all persona that can connect him and disconnect him from the "thing" I hate.

I guarantee you that this is the same with 90% of the Super-Serb Cetniks
I put these individuals in the same category you could call me a Cetnik as I share and agree with thoughts about the enemy's of Serbia but I do not generalize and I take people on face value, I dont hate Albanians nor do I hate Croats etc but I do hate the individuals/groups that wish me,my family or my country harm.
So again how can you call me a rat when the display you have shown is typical of a Rat.

Then I will admit, you are a better man than me Vinjak... Nah its got nothing to do with that, its simply a realization that blind hatred is the most destructive thing ever on an individual, its a realization that being a sheep only benefits the shepherd. its also about being an individual and taking of the blinkers so you can see the whole picture. But never selling your soul. I am a Proud Serb and I defend that vigorously. That does not mean I will defend the animals amongst mine, because in all races there are animals that do not belong here nor will any flag bound me to any of them.
