Abkhazia: We could recognize Kosovo Abkhazian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergej Basma, said he is ready to recognize Kosovo's independence. "If Kosovo agrees to recognize our own (Abkhazia) independence, we will certainly recognize them as well", said Basma. The desire for recognition is there, though Basma added he very much doubt such thing will happen because "authorities in Pristina are very much depended on NATO and US in their decision making process".

Any one can recognize anyone. The key notions in the case are VALUE and VALIDITY. UN seat has to do with the value of it. Validity it is a strictly bilateral process. A UN seat it is a confirmation in international level of the self declared nation, but not an limitation for that nation to recognize another. Let say Kosova recognizes all 46 states that recognized here and it doesn't need a UN seat to do that. Recognition as an act it is not always a declaration. Diplomatic ties, pacts and trade signed between 2 nations also underline the fact.
The act of recognition from one single country toward another it is clearly not depended from other nations in itself, nevertheless the value (not the validity) and the political gravity of it brings the UN in the equation .

i dont think its a very good idea to recognize this breakaway region. Firstly it wouldn't be in the interests of those nations that recognized Kosova ie the West, and two Abkhazian will never be recognized by anyone so its a pointless exercise.

Kosovo should recognize Abkhazia just to see what happens. This recognition can't hurt them.

Georgians on the whole are not entirely supportive of Kosova either... so I dont see how it would matter if Kosova recognized it.
