The word Ôïìðñïôßôæáò(Tomprotitzas) has its "sign"-"tonos" in giota(ß). When a word is written in capitals we don't put signs. And the Greek polysyllabic words(and monosyllabic some times) have this diacritical sign on the stressed vowel,as you say, till now...whats this 1940's...? library.imxa.gr is a site of a library in Thessaloniki,I think, that has more than 25.000 titles about southeastern Europe and its history. Its not a digital library but you have to go there and research the book you want.

I don't have the right fonts for this site so what you typed in brackets, the giota, appears on my screen as beta. Type the corresponding Latin letter for yota. Take a look at the links, you will see that the name written normally (not in capitals) has no sign. At least I can see a sign. Which vowel/syllable is stressed in Tobrotizas? Is it the same vowel with yota?

This is giota(capital & small): In Tobrotitzas the stress is on - i-...Tobrot itzas. Greek giota doesn't indispensably have the sign above like the latin i,only when its stressed.
