Doctor said I have a fluid buildup in my knee. Anyone else familiar with this, know anyone that got this and how long it took to recover? It will put a serious dent in my athletics training so I'm worried.

It will for sure but it is much better to treat it immediately, regardless how many days it will take you to recover completely. Because this might bring to meniscus rupture or whatever the medical term is. This same thing happened to a friend of mine and he had to say bye-bye football.

I have no torn ligaments or tendons, just some membrane damage and the body's defense mechanism is to swell up with water.
I think I got this doing all my weight jumps and speed training, rather than actually playing a game.. I personally expect a full recovery within a month!

My pops had the same thing a WHILE back, right after the war. Didn't do anything about it, and finally when he came to Canada, they had a look at it. Took him 2 months or so to recover. Man could barely work.
BTW, good that you detected it this early, since he didn't do shit about his for almost 3 years. His knee got exponentially worse as time went on, but its as good as new. I think you'll be fine in 2-3 weeks, just gotta take it easy.
