Bravo Nestor and Zimonjic again for winning Italian !!
Novi uspeh srpsko-kanadskog dubla Zimonjiæ i Nestor osvojili i Rim! Autor: Tanjug, Blic online | 03.05.2009. - 16:18 Nenad Zimonjiæ i Danijel Nestor su osvojili masters u Rimu pobedom nad najboljim dublom sveta, braæom Majkom i Bobom Brajanom rezultatom 7:6 (5), 6:3.

‘Serbia gathered around tennis’- “The entire event exceeds our wildest dreams. The audience was perfect. The people from the ATP have told us we have set new standards in the ATP Series 250"The debut Serbia Open event has entirely met the expectations of the organizers. Tournament director Goran Djokovic was the busiest man in the past seven days, but says he is content with what has been achieved. - “We had anticipated something like this, but this exceeds our predictions. We are thrilled by the audience and the response we’ve had from the people who have visited the promotional village. In any case, I would like to thank all those who decided to turn up and I believe that people in Serbia have here gathered around tennis. We owe it to the Government of Serbia, as well as the Belgrade municipality,” said Djokovic. He confirms the tournament will see its second edition in the same place this time next year. - “Next year it will all be the same here, as we are developing a project in Novi Beograd due to this recession. This exceeds our wildest dreams. We’ve really been a bit worried about what the turnout will be of the fans, but it turned out they were immense and also knowledgeable tennis-wise, which was no surprise. We’ve proved before we are a sporting nation, and now we are growing into a tennis nation.” The footage from Serbia has been circulating the globe in the past days. Belgrade has been talked about for all the best reasons, which is extremely important, bearing in mind this was the first ever ATP tournament in the country. - “A few foreign newspapers visited us during the event, and they sent experienced crews as they found our tournament interesting. Next year we will deal more with the organizational part, as this year we both created and organized things, while next year we will have more time to dedicate ourselves to details. We will have more time to create an even bigger tournament,” Goran Djokovic is confident. Tennis has become a national brand within a short period of time, while it increasingly becoming the talk of the town in Serbia. - “At people viewed tennis as a sport for the jet-set, but soon saw it wasn’t so. The media provided substantial help and everyone was able to see they can freely enter and find something they liked. This belongs to them as well, because, according to ATP regulations, not only is a certain capacity of the stadium required but also certain attendance. When it is stated that there should be a 6,000-seater, this actually means capacity crowd. There would be no use bringing the entire jet-set of Serbia, if there were no people in Serbia who followed tennis and who would come to see ATP Tour matches.” Serbia and Belgrade can be proud of their ATP tournament, which could grow into a Series 500 event soon, says Goran Djokovic. - “I’ve spoken with Adam Helfant of the ATP and he is thrilled. They said we’ve set new standards for the Series 250 and they may now have trouble with other events because we’ve exceeded their levels. When I asked Helfant what our next step should be now, he said it was all now a matter of money. We know a lot about tennis and around tennis. We’ve gathered people from the government, athletes and tennis players and it’s really been a celebration of tennis in the past seven days in Belgrade,” said Goran Djokovic, tournament director of Serbia Open.

In Madrid, Djokovic and Vemic are in doubles quarterfinals and Novak plays Ljubicic tomorrow. Who knows Zimonjic and Nestor could play Djok/Vemic in finals?

Djokovic just beat Ljubicic 6-4 6-4
It was nice to see the sportsmanship between them both. A few times when the umpire made a mistake both of them would correct them even though it was in favour of the other.

Is "Nole" usual short name for "Novak" or is it just Novak Jokovic's nick?

Well Novak is not a very usual name to begin with. But I think Nole would be the typical 'pet name' for Novak (just because I can't think of any other... maybe Novke?). For Ana is it Anchi, for Jelena it is Jeca (Jetsa). Those are all typical pet names. They are not short in the sense that everyone calls you like that (only close friends and family).

Serbia to face hosts Germany in World Cup final
DUESSELDORF, Germany (AFP) — Serbia will face hosts Germany in the final of the World Team Cup after seeing off Italy on Friday as the debutants finished the round-robin stage undefeated.
The Serbian doubles pairing of Viktor Troicki and Nenad Zimonjic ensured their team's place in Sunday's final against the Germans by beating the Italians Francesco Piccari and Andreas Seppi 6-0, 7-6 (7/5).
The Serbs are making their debut here and the only two other newcomers who have gone on to reach the final are Yugoslavia and Croatia after Yugoslavia won the title with a 2-1 over Sweden on its debut in 1990, while Croatia lost the 1995 final 2-1 to Sweden on their first entry.
Germany's doubles team Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev put the hosts in their seventh World Team Cup final when they defeated Sweden's Robin Soderling and Robert Lindstedt 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 13-11 to seal a 2-1 win.
In a gripping and often nerve-wracking battle, the pair held their nerve in the third set tie-breaker and the Germans are hunting their fifth title on Sunday.
Serbia's doubles victory meant Argentina's win over Russia in the Blue Group counted for nothing after Maximo Gonzales defeated Evgeny Korolev 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Friday.
At short notice, Gonzalez stood in for Juan Monaco del Potro who was suffering from a wrist injury in the doubles match, but the game was decided quickly after the Russian pair were forced to retire with injury to seal a 2-0 win to Argentina.

Serbia claim World Team title!Newcomers Serbia clinched the World Team Cup in Duesseldorf with a 2-1 victory over hosts Germany in the final on Saturday. Janko Tipsarevic gave Serbia their second, winning point when he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-2 6-4 for an unassailable 2-0 lead with the doubles rubber remaining. The Serbs, who also won all three group matches, grabbed the lead when Viktor Troicki edged past Rainer Schuettler 6-4 7-6. Serbia became the first country since Yugoslavia in 1990 to win the cup on their debut appearance, organisers said. Tipsarevic carved out two breaks in the first set and another in the second to beat the world number 31 and clinch the title for his country with an ace on match point. Dominant throughout, world number 72 Tipsarevic gave Kohlschreiber no chance of a comeback similar to the ones the German staged in his group matches. "I cannot be satisfied with my game," said Kohlschreiber. "Nothing was working at the back," he said of his error-ridden performance. Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev took a point for Germany in the dead doubles rubber, beating Troicki and doubles world number one Nenad Zimonjic 7-5 4-6 10-7
