The United Nations should find a million Psychiatrist's and send them into the Balkans, you are all nuts.
Some Greeks look like Slavs, some Slav look like Greeks, some Greeks look like Persians, Some Turks look like Slavs, some Slavs look like Turks, some Croats look like Albanians, some Albanians look like Greeks, some Greeks look like Albanians, some Persians look like Greeks, some Greeks look like Jews, some Jews look like Greeks, some Bulgarians look like Fyroms, some Fyroms look like Serbs, some Serbs look like Albanians, some Albanians look like Egyptians, some Egyptians look like Albanians, some Greeks look like Egyptians, some Jews look like Egyptians, some Hungarians look like Albanians, some Bulgarians look like Greeks, some Turks look like Bulgarians, some Turks look like Greeks, ETC ETC, ETC.
You have taken to mating with each others mothers so often, you are all related.
The height of your Stupidity shows you are all related.
The sooner you stop all this inbreeding, and get on with life the happier you will be.

char, you dont need to explain that since ethnic groups resemble other ehtnic group that were related.
We are all related as we share the same ancestry from Africa
The thing is,that we have our identities, ethnic identities and even if we know our recent mixture,we identify with either and want the best for our ethnic kin.
So its identification, kinship and support for the best

Hi Hellboy87
Yes, I know what you mean.
But in the Balkans the difference between one group or another is often merely which invader raped your Grandmother?
Which conquerer enslaved your Grandfather?
Which conquerer ordered your Grandfather to change your families religion or language?
The falsification of History or attaching lives to some small administrative group of the conquerer is nuts.
How often did conquerers shift populations?
One particular group of 200,000 captured slaves were taken to an area, depleted of population because of disease and having only 80,000 remaining original inhabitants.
Five or six generations, those that adopted the religion and language of the original inhabitants, now claim racial superiority over the neighbouring group, when in fact they are almost the same as their neighbours.
Educated & informed people from every part of the Balkans treat each other like brothers, no matter what language or religious they are attached to.
The Societies of the common man that do not have real scholars or intellectuals in their lives, allow themselves to live lies, and get violent if you tell them they are related to their neighbour.
The old rule applies very well in the Balkans, "Divide and Rule"

If that's true, then what is the difference between the Balkans and the rest of the world?

I can say that if that is true the difference between Europe and Balkans is that country like Czechoslovakia was able to splinter in two peacefully while we were not and that west certainly had a hand in this (specifically Germany and US which couldn't wait to recognize independence of former Yugoslav countries while there was a serious dispute going with Serb constituent minorities which wanted to remain in the same country with Serbia). Even the way Kosovo is recognized clearly shows this and also opens dangerous precedent (which has already backfired in Georgia and elsewhere).
Perhaps west will do everything possible not to allow a strong Balkan state as was former Yugoslavia and fueling for the war there that followed was a punishment for its very existence and its assistance in anti-imperialist struggle across the third world.

char that is how we survived for thousands of years. Its our style. At least.. we didnt bombed with nukes others, we didnt start World Wars for having more colonies, and we didnt have any Auswitz or Guandanamo's camps. I prefer Balkan culture than yours... Its more human.

The underlying cause of the disintegration was a power vacuum left by Tito. I don't understand why people need to form a conspiracy theory when the killings and murders are all our fault.
Markovic was running around U.S. in '89 asking for loans, and the US actually gave him a few. What would be gained from Yugoslavia going under? Nothing. Yugoslavia was not very much a threat to anyone once Tito died. It was a weak and crumbling state, only people could not notice it due to borrowings from IMF and other states. It was inevitable for the country to collapse.

Yes Red Baron, I am part of the salad.
One half of my extended family call themselves Orthodox Greeks and the other half Turkish Muslims.
Religion is used as a means of celebrating the seasons and life.
We are mainly Souvlaki Christians and Muslims, that is when the souvlaki and wine is served for a celebration, we are there.
We don't believe that religion is anything more than the way to point one to logic and love, and to connect with society.
I rejoice that I don't have any relatives who say they speak for God, and, that our weak God needs them to protect his name, or kill their neighbour for him.
When you look at the faces of my extended family, you can see the "Greek", Persian and possibly some Celt or Slav.
I live in a beautiful neighbourhood, where my Italians, Albanians, Persians, Kurds, Croats, Serb, Fyroms, Lebanese, Bulgars, Turks & Spanish relatives often address me in their own language thinking I am one them, when they see me keeping company with their loved ones.
Another neighbour recently told me I look so much like one of his loved cousins in north India. I smiled. I took that as compliment. The maps of Croation, Serb, Bulgar, Fyrom, Greek and Turkish lost empires, and the cry of stolen territories is the madness of the Balkans on paper.
Yes BasilMacedon, that is how we survived in the past. A small tribe of extended family. But that is not the future.
A nephew working and living in Wall Street, New York has Fyrom and Turkish colleagues, making money for the USA, even today, instead of using their talents in enriching the Balkans.
Civilization needs peace and open minds and borders to merely exist today. The continual loss of the young and intelligent is going to leave only the feeble minded in the Balkans to mince each others bodies in to dust.
Why do I write?
I detest racism, war machines and modern colonialism.
I do not like artificial barriers put in between me and my neighbour.
I want to see every group in the Balkans culturally strong.
There should be more than one type of flower in the world.

AAdmin what's up with your conspiracy theories. So far I was of the opinion that Serbs believed in such conspiracies to make themselves and Serbia feel more important than it is to the rest of the world. To make themselves feel so important and so invincible that the rest of the world had a vested interest to crush them. This of course everyone else, but those who believe in such theories, know that are just stupid notions. Apparently you, I guess you are not a Serb, are buying these theories. Hey you know what Nostradamus predicted that the US and Germany would destroy Jugoslavia and crush Serbia.
Char the thing is that in the Balkans exists a very evil way of thinking upon which all the evil we've seen there has come from. That is all of the Balkan states and their people believe that for their nation to be a great nation you have to deny and ridicule the history and achievement of your neighbors. That is not going to change, however unfortunate that is.

What Basil said it's true. We never had Holocaust or Nuclear bombs; yes, we Balkans are hotblooded and a mixture of Mediterranean and Slavs but our conflicts are to be proud of compared to those of "big powers" that after divided half of the World with flame, wars, crusades, nukes, famine, colonies, etc. come to blame us for been uncivilized!!!!
