Must read book for every Turk, Greek and Armenian
----------------
It is the next book of Louis de Bernieres( after his "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" became a word-of-mouth bestseller) named: "Birds without wings". I am currenty reading it and I feel that every Turk, Greek or Armenina should read it. It is not a propaganda book, it is novel that describes very well the times when all of us used to live together. Here is link from barnes and nobles- Birds without wings search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=2s0uxUCAgj&isbn=1400043417&itm=1. Enjoy!

Hello
Northern Cyprus is illegally occupied and your Grey Wolve Generals are still controlling the Turkish army that continously breach Greek airspeace. Untill then you are my eternal enemy and the destruction of the Turkish state is a dream come true. Only being honest. People like me do not get fooled by your stupidity in aim to bring people together, for you are pure HYPOCRITES, please raise the issue of the Constaninople pogrom of 1955, do not sweep it under the carpet and we may be getting somewhere. Untill then, please try not to place Greek and Armenian names in the same sentence with the Turks, thank you.

iapetus,
you are one sad example of balkan extremism. You don't understand that without any solidarity no Turk will cooperate with any of your wishes. You need to be wise and know how to handle things. That is not the way you can achieve your goal.

I am not deviating facts and introducing fantasy second rate authors to bring people together unlike yourself. This is the reality.

Now, shall I continue ?
The Muslim minority in Komotini have been well preserved in accordance with the Lousanne Treaty. Why did Turkey breach this treaty and Greeks are still keeping their side of the bargain, even today ? Albeit, Turks did not keep their side of the treaty, come to think of it, Turks have broken most if not all treaties with Greece and Greece still upholds these treaties where Turks have breached them.
You are not and never will be European.

Can you talk at least once as a human being rather than a politician. All humans are the same in spirit. I am not representing my government and previous ones. You have to understand that gorvenments do things. That doesn't mean that all people from this country come together and decide to do these things. Several people decide and they are resposible for that. What I am trying to do here is to have talk like humans do.
Since I am not politician and this place is not official organ of united nations where only political issues can be disscussed I hope to find something common with people from very similar culture and region. I had very nice conversations with less fanatic Greek friends than you and was happy to share my sympathy and empathy. If you don't want or you don't have this capasity or maturity to do that don't force yourself.
We will manage without you. But I believe that the only thing that matters after all is the friendship and peace among nations that secures the happy future of new generations. I believe that new generations should be the most tolerant and openmided because it is much more difficult for the old ones to change and stretch a hand.

I like most of the things you said, I strongly support turkeys evolution into a democratic country that cares for its people.
However the turks are not europeans and without any empathy I suggest that there are too many cultural differences between europeans and (muslim) turkish people.
I do not know if you find that difficult to believe or not, but my objection to the turks joining the EU is not Cyprus, nor the Aegean, nor the turkish aggression towards Greece, it is the fundamentaly different behaviour that the muslim religion brings into the equation,
it leads to seperatism, getho's, minority city blocks, minority behaviour...too many things to mention.
I think the mentality is different, to put it another way, I would not like it very much if Milan was turned into a Manchester.
those of you who have lived in england will know what I mean.

Well Europe is still somehow a racist continent. Those who live in US will know that there is nothing wrong for people from different races and cultures living together as long as they are professional in their jobs and care for the wellbeing of US. So simple. And after their entry to EU Turks have to be professional in their jobs with Europeans, that is all. The goal of EU is not to assimilate different cultures and nations. It is a economical and political union. For the rest nobody has right to mess with. Anything wrong with that?
Last thing, it is so obvious that Europe needs Turkey, may be much more than Turkey needs Europe, otherwise I can't explain why Turkey would have been given so much hope. Nothing is without compensation in international affairs. There must be some big benefit for Europe in order to risk its future with the Turkey experiment. We will see. But you be ready to see Turks in EU in 10 years. Just get used to it. No big deal. They are human beings, too, fom flesh and blood.
