Yeah, I'm sure they'll join, but that will be in the future, when they change their name, and learn to behave.

expected. Forget the sarkozy statements for Greek roots etc. The thing is that if they accept fyrom this time, they could not say no their eu accession talks, meaning pumping money in a state that for the moment is thin air.......
Slovenia,Romania,Esthonia,Czech,Lithouania . Agree. all this anti missile shield and other promises from the us have blurred their sight. it is a message to the eu too to understand the level of influence the us has in its soil.
Turkey does this surprise you? Although they lost a good diplomatic chance to get greece owing them a favor. Cos the same NATO that held the talks now proposed a map with a Kurdistan in the south of turkey. when NATO will want to apply this, the turks will ask for understanding i hope they find it from esthonia, lithuania or the chech republic......
for the Uk it is not exactly negative. they preferred to stay neutral cos they denied the demand for more troops in Afganistan.....
Which is a big step, considering the proximity, the military dependence from the US, and that only recently after pressure they recognised fyrom. Their credibility would go down the drain if they took Greece's side now.
Nope. It is a matter of coincidence. It is election period now, and as usual the us during the elections cannot really move. GW Bush tries to immitate clinton with the diplomacy spree immediatelly before he stepped down as a president (the guy held the camp David talks with Palestinians and Israelis 2 days before he left office!!!) I will not be surprised if GW becomes a "freelance" diplomat for a private megacompany

I do not think it is because of jealousy. one day you will understand that you are Bulgarians. and then you will want to change your name. Again. can you imagine all this procedure?

Coincidence has nothing to with anything here, Bush went to lay out some strategies and policies and failed miserably. NOT only did Greece bitc*h slap him, the whole of Nato did. Here is a pic which sums it up pretty well ;D

For the record: I'm with Greece on this one, as I think most Romanians are. But if Greeks want to show their dissatisfaction with our goverment's decission, then go ahead. Do what you must. I told the same to the Albanians who complained about us not recognizing Kosovo's independence.
Now, apart from the US politics, I'll mention this one more: there are some 20,000 Vlachs in Macedonia that are recognized as a minority and where Romania is involved in ensuring their education in Aromanian. There are greater things at stake, than just pleasing America.

I think Romania should recognize/take care of it's Roma minority first before it yonders off in other pastures.

I think Romania should recognize/take care of it's Roma minority first before it yonders off in other pastures. This is not about us sticking our nose where it doesn't belong. We are a part of a political entity where we are required to take a stand on certain things, such as this one. Moreover, Macedonia requested all the countries in the world to take a stand on their name issue. That is, to either recognize the country as Macedonia, or, FYROM. This is required when addressing the country in diplomatical correspondence. As for the Roma, they are very recognized. We try to help them a little and the EU tries to help them a little; but most of the work must be done by them. For the same reason as the rest: FYROM makes an anachronistic claimant to Greek herritage.
