Greece takes over new F-16Posted: March 19, 2009 at 22:34 PM EST (27:34 AM GMT) In a ceremony Thursday, Lockheed Martin officials formally handed over the first of 30 advanced F-16s to be produced for Greece's Hellenic Air Force. "We've made it our mission to provide the Hellenic Air Force with the world's most advanced 4th generation fighter," Ralph Heath, president of Fort Worth-based Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., said in presenting the aircraft to Greek military and government officials. Rev. Michael Stearns, priest at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Fort Worth, blessed the aircraft. Greece, which had previously bought three lots of F-16s totaling 140 planes since 1988, ordered the latest 30 in December 2005. The aircraft are more advanced than the F-16s now flown by the U.S., which plans to replace its aircraft in a few years with F-35s. Greece is also eyed as a likely F-35 customer. Why we keep buying from Americans? Ok.. I understand the Turks, the Fyromians etc etc... but why WE buy from them? I dont see any win-win situation for seller and buyer.

Vassili, Its cost effective...thats why. The rest are too expensive... Now they are recommending us the F18 Superhornet. Its not a bad choice, personally I like the Rafales F-18 Superhornet...looks kind of like an F-16, but stronger..

F-18 Superhornet...looks kind of like an F-16, but stronger.. I agree with expatriot. Lads those F-18 Superhornets are awesome saw one last Sunday we had an air show here in Melbourne. The manoeuvres it can do and it's capabilities are outstanding, take my word for it as an eye witness with a smile from ear to ear. they are dangerous and very deadly.

Janni "You understand the Turks? That is something new" --------------------------------------------------------- It is not something new Jannisary. It is obvious that US offers a lot to Turkey. "PKK is illegal" "Ocalan offered to you" "At Cyprous issue UN decisions were inactivated" "Equal distance from Ankara aggression in Aegean islands" "There is no Armenian genocide.. until now" "Hillary and Obama first visit in the region is in Turkey" etc etc etc
US wants the alliance of Turkey and shows it. So, its good for Turkey to buy from Americans. Its a win-win situation. "You help me and I buy from you".
For Greece... where is the win-win situation? In Fyrom issues..? In Aegean issues?... In Cyprous issues?.. We keep on paying them without any political gain..

Patriotis "Now they are recommending us the F18 Superhornet. Its not a bad choice, personally I like the Rafales" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I like a lot the Eurofighters. Good ones, although expensive,.. and the money stay inside Europe.
Regarding the saying... "Its American its good"... I dont think so! Who would prefer a Ford over a German car? Who would prefer an oversees flight with UA or Delta.. instead of Lufthansa or Air France or Swiss Air or British Airways or even Olympic Airways? I had all the above options and flying with an American company is like driving a Zastava. 100 years behind.. European ones. Europe is the past, Europe is the future.

The F-22 Raptors can target and fire at 16 different targets at once. So screw your new F-16's!!!!!
The best military. best trained military and the military with the best and most advanced equipment is the USA!!! The US Navy is the best and most powerful Navy in the world, with 12 Super carriers (Britain comes in next with 3), and the USA has the best and largest Air Force, with 6000+ aircraft.
When speaking about "Combat Power" (This factor takes into account combat support elements. logistics, maintenance, leadership, training and military tradition), the US Army is number 1, followed by China, Israel, India, Russia, North Korea, South Korea, United Kingdom and Turkey (What!!!! No Greece?)
Thought you would like to know.

roflmao,man...we are always capable of serious surprizes...You see,our victories were least expected during the balkan or world wars...needless to remind you the greek borderline as it was during 1912 and how it's today... here, read some... Adolf Hitler about the greekswww.hitler.org/speeches/05-04-41.htmlAdolf Hitler May 4th 1941, Reichstag, Berlin Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The German armed forces have truly surpassed themselves in this campaign. There is only one way of characterizing that campaign: Nothing is impossible for the German soldier. Historical justice, however, obliges me to say that of the opponents that have taken up arms against us, most particularly the greek soldiers, have fought with the greatest bravery and contempt of death. They only capitulated when further resistance became impossible and therefore useless.
