The old women in the first video are singing in Greek.... how do you know they are arvanites.... ? Am I the only one thinking people are labeling videos the way they see fit? I think your are. The video is labelled: Ελληνες Αρβανίτες Αττικοβοιωτίας-Αρβανίτικα Now I've never studied Greek, other than learning how to count to ten and the alphabet, but I believe that says: Ellines Arvanitika AtikoBoetia-Arvanitika. I don't think I have to explain any further what that means. That was pretty Albanian. I could make out almost every word. What surprised me was the most was that their Albanian was exactly like my grandmother's. I'm sure they speak that way in very few parts of Southern Albania and we have borrowed from Greek as well. I can't think of a lot of examples right now but some of the words I heard her use were: skupe=broom manxane=eggplant (Greek melitzana) gjiton=neighbour (Greek geitonas) Mind you these are words I've never used since I grew up in Tirana. Her accent could also be mistaken for Greek. I have a cousin of mine who was born and raised in Tirana but then moved to Greece when he was 19. After living for almost 15 years in Athens now he speaks Albanian with a heavy southern Albanian accent as if he was born and raised in my grandparents ancestral home.

Where was your granny exactly from? Gijrokaster countryside but they lived most of their lives in a Delvine village after my grandpa moved there. Now that I think about it perhaps the presence of Albanians in Greece has made Arvanitika perhaps more aligned with Albanian.

What exactly is Turkish about it? What looks Turkish to you? Just curious. What exactly is a Turkish look and what exactly is a Turkish sound. I am not sure your statements are grounded but just founded on your own personal opinions. I think what makes you think the song sounds Turkish is the Lyre. Look up the origins of the Lyre. You think it sounds Turkish because now the Turks play Lyre. Listen to the beauty of that music!!! Beautiful!!!
Bye the way my first thought was of how similar that was to Bulgarians and not Turks.

I doubt about the costume's and the music also..it sounds and look like turkish. 2/3 of the arvanitic population in the previous centuries wore that costume... vraka.

The Arberesh in Italy also wore local clothing. In fact there was no trace of their old ancestral clothing in anything they wore except some notable differentiations from the real Italians.
And that Albanian sounds atrocious. Nothing worse than hearing a Greek speaking Albanian. They cant pronounce 85% of anything properly.
Arberesh, having the Italian accent to it, is far more suitable to real Albanian. It actually sounds quite beautiful
^^ Real Music.
