Just as I thought, the voting went horrible in Albania and EU was disappointed. Berisha needed to make it up somehow and comes up with this... to prove to Europe that we are European we have to cater to the f*gs of the country.
Not that i care about gay marriage, but the reasoning behind why this is being done is ridiculous and appalling. Albania, cuz of Berisha, is once again the laughing stock of the Balkans.

Funny thing is EU didn't even ask for this but in his demented mind Berisha thinks he can get away with murder by letting homos marry.

Of course it wouldnt ask for this... why would it when only 3 out of 27 EU countries have legalized homo marriage? Its absurd. There are so many different reforms he could have put through or legislation that he could recommended besides this. But this will now garner him some serious media attention. He will present Albania as a model 'Islamic majority European minded country'. And this how this play up when it comes to trying to get Middle Eastern nations to recognize Kosovo... now that Albania is a 'Muslim country that lets gays marry'. Thaci and Sejdiu must think Berisha has gone nuts.

Funny thing is EU didn't even ask for this but in his demented mind Berisha thinks he can get away with murder by letting homos marry. I beg to differ, this is EU motivated. I'm sure his bank account will double if the law passes. Berisha is looking for big fat check. Gay marriage is just a step to make regular marriage become meaningless, which in turn destroys the family. This is a brave new world dream of the western elites. So enjoy the future, bisexual orgies and drugs. If backward country like Albania legalizes gay marriage it would force some western ones to follow.

Comment: This could be a first step for Albania to joining the EU. I'm not jumping for a predominantly Muslim country to join, but in this case I may leap ever so slightly. And is it just a coincidence that Christians wave their Bibles around every time same-sex marriage is uttered? If Christianity hadn't begun to sweep the world 2000 years ago, gay marriage would be a given by now. Remember the Greeks or the Romans? Alexander The Great and Julius Ceasar both had male lovers. Openly! Nowadays your presidential candidates have to oppose gay marriage if they even want to have a chance of running. "God bless America". Meaning: if your a straight American.

There's a difference b/t someone who identifies as belonging to a certain religion & someone who practices that religion. There's ALSO differences in the levels/degrees of religious practice - do they adhere strictly to the teachings of their religion or take a more liberal approach? For example, many Catholics, whether they go to church regularly or not, ignore the Vatican's prohibitions against contraception, but will accept the Vatican's "teachings" on homosexuality if it fits their personal biases.

This is because the majority of Albanians do not associate themselves with any religion. See what a difference religion makes when it controls society? I'm happy for them.

Okay ALBANIA is more socially progressed than we are...for some strange reason I have issues with this. We should be deeply ashamed of our country. |
www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid102194.aspOh yeah Albania is a utopia. Everyone dreams to see the day when people no longer have morals and have public bisexual orgies. Thats progress!!!

Lol, some common I have read from a 'Gay Albania' facebook group (I checked the membership, over half is made up of non-Albanians, principally Italians and Greeks). The Gay Albania group has 170 members. Gay Greece, 470. Serbia, 340. I never knew I would ever find something like this for Albanians. Its crazy. Some of the Albs there are posting looking for other mates... I guess times are changing. I showed this to my aunt and she began to curse "f*ggots, may they drop dead." LOL. Some hilarious comments: Themis Katsagiannis wrote at 6:10pm on June 21st, 2009 I just found out about this group. I think it is wonderful that gays are gathering together in Albania even if that happens electronically, on facebook. Congratulations from Greece and many kisses. I beg to differ, this is EU motivated. I'm sure his bank account will double if the law passes. Berisha is looking for big fat check. Not the case. Berisha is trying to win back European affection after stealing the elections and getting negative reviews from the OSCE monitors. On top of that we were left off the visa liberalisation plan in which Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia are part.

They should hold a referendum on it and see how 'progressive' Albania is on the issue... According to an EU sponsored poll showed that under 19% of Albanians have any approval towards same-sex marriage. And this poll was held around Tirana, which is more open. I wonder how high the acceptance is in the rural area of central Albania.

Religious groups react... no comment from Janullatos... hmmmm Albania’s religious leaders said Thursday that they oppose a government proposal to extend marriage rights to gay couples. Speaking to local daily Gazeta Shqiptare, the head of Albania’s Muslim community, Shkelqim Muca, rejected the proposal, arguing that, in his community's view, gay marriage was unacceptable. “We are absolutely against it as a community,” said Muca, adding that a relationship between two gay people could not be consecrated through marriage. “This is a sham not a law,” he added. The Catholic Church was also critical of the proposal. Spokesperson Father Henry Weldcamp said the church's position is that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha announced in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday that the government would push for a law that recognises homosexual marriages. “This is an important law against discrimination,” said Berisha, who often stresses the importance of family values. The prime minister said that the law had already been put to parliament and that MPs should treat it seriously because it provides a legal basis against discrimination, bringing the country into line with a framework already approved by the EU, which Albania aspires to join. While the Albanian parliament decriminalised homosexual relations in 1995, more than a decade later, gays and lesbians are still heavily stigmatised, and a majority live clandestine lives, fearing that if their sexual orientation is discovered their safety will be endangered. Human rights reports on Albania concede that ingrained attitudes among the public leave Albanian gays and lesbians on the fringes of society. AHRG reports that Albanian homosexuals face “intolerance, physical and psychological violence - often from the police - and discrimination in the workplace.” www.balkaninsight.com/en/main/news/21404/
