i spent quite a bit of time in Vlora last summer, it was flooded with macs, 1 every third car had macedonian licence plates, ever since the friction between greece and macs intensified they seem to gravitate our way, tourism in greece is becoming very expensive though, you do get better value but damn what's up with the prices going up like mad in greece? in albania, thankfully, the prices are quite low(for people coming from abroad that is), but it will not remain like that for much longer i reckon. South Albania in the summer is Kosovar and Ilrida central. That and Tironsit. Along with returnee Albanians from Greece.

I'm from Golem and know the place better than anyone here...we were speaking about tourists not owners of caffes/bars
Iliridans prefer Golem and then the extreme south...barely anyone goes northern than golem

Ksamil beach was filled with Kosovar license plates when I was there last time so your prolly right.
Still I find it hard to believe that Makos outnumber Ilridans.

To my knowledge, people from Kosova usually frequent Durres, Golem and Velipoje; everything reminiscent of Ulqin's sandy beaches. Only the "elite" go to the southern riviera, to Vlore, Sarande & Ksamil, like politicians or music stars.

This last summer, we didn't have much time, so we spent most (all essentially) of it in Durres, in an apartment for about 30 €/night (we were five people). But we couldn't leave without visiting Vlore and Sarande too. We left early in the morning and arrived in Saranda late in the afternoon, meeting up with two family members there. We checked into a hotel, where one room was 90 €/night. The owner agreed for us to pay 150 € for two rooms. But, then again, this was a first class hotel, while the apartment in Durres wasn't the best. I'm sure you can find cheaper prices, if you find some apartment for rent ... maybe even for the same price as the one in Durres (where in turn you can find cheaper prices than the one we got).
In comparison, when we were in Makarska (Croatia), the price for a room was 15 € for one person, one night. Five people = 75 €. In other words, renting an ordinary apartment in Makarska, which isn't the most expensive place in Croatia (Dubrovnik is far worse) was almost equal to one room in a first class hotel in Saranda, the most expensive location on the Albanian riviera. We're not even comparing hotels with hotels.

Its over priced. For one reason either its not like the service is good. Night life is amazing, but the rest is meh considering what you are paying. I actually went outside the city and found some guy who gave us a room near an old communist era dockyard and an old cemetary... we payed 40euros then, but we had to drive to the city (through some unpaved road). I liked it though. Stayed about four days there.

When I went to Vlora a few years ago, I did not meet any Albanians from Macedonia. From what I saw, most of the Macedonian license plates consisted of Slav families.
Quick story, we went to a pizzeria in Vlora and we were speaking to the waiter and he asked us where we were from. We told him we came from Macedonia, and the guy just stared at us and told us we spoke Albanian very well, He told us with most Macedonian tourist he has a difficult time trying to get an order through. We tried to explain to the guy we were Albanian, but he looked dumbfounded. I guess he didn't realize there were Albanians in Macedonian.
Not the sharpest tool in the shed I suppose.........

The one thing I noticed about Macedonians... is that they really really dislike Albanians. Except for a few I have run across, the rest really really dislike Albanians. I mean seriously. They have a similar mentality to Serbs. They view Albanians as intruders to their land, consider Albanians religious fundamentalist and many of them feel their politicians are selling themselves off towards Albanians. They fear another Kosova will happen to their country to put it bluntly.

We have a Macedonian minority in Albania and we recognized this long ago. They are recognized and have a place in govt. They number 5000 at their most... divided and heavily assimilated. They are 1000x better than the Greek minority. Even the Serbs in the north are upstanding.
The beef you have with them is your own, not ours. We have other problems and are straightening them out evenly and fairly.
