Pashalimani is a NATO base principally run by Turkish troops. This exercise was done with Belgian troops.

+1 Greek troops in Albania mean trouble; even if they're there with a NATO mandate.

Insalah you have the bunkers...and you are safe... ;D Turkish-nato base in Pashalimani? Baba is back? ;D You couldnt resist. The second a Greek reads about Turks and Albanians working together chills run down your spine. Pashalimani is a strategic site at Vlora. Once the Albanian base is prepared it will be fully occupied by Albania. Until then Turkish troops, alongside various other NATO troops, are helping to modernize and train the navy there. On top of that, nobody in the area minds the Turks who are stationed there. In fact, I spoke to one who was there once via facebook and he told me that all the Albanians would make all the Turks in Vlora treated him as one of their own. To us they are allies and friends. And whoever Pasha Limani was, Im willing to be he was an Albanian governing Albanians.

Maybe Pashalimani is simply the Turkish words for "Pasha's Harbour"? Pasaliman ... ?

Same meaning in Albanian, but the reason why I think Pashalimani comes from Turkish is because in our language it would say "limani i Pashes" or "limani i Pashait", (the pasha's harbour), never "Pashaliman".

There are a lot of places that were named like that in Greece... but the Govt renamed them... some locals still use the old names. PIRAEUS PASALIMANI

Interesting. Just confirms its Turkish origins. There would be no need to change a Greek name to another Greek name. Is "liman" the only Greek word for harbour?

Limani is a greek word loaned by the Turks...they always had an issue with the sea things...even with the sea-related words... The Pashalimani in Piraeus is called by everybody as it is, I don't think its officialy renamed. There every May we celebrate the cups by Olympiacos!

Pashalimani is named as such from locals and the name did stick in time since on the little plot of land in the harbor still today is preserved Pasha's tomb. I don't know his name, but apparently he died there. This Pasha turned the harbor into a little base for his garrison during Ottoman times.

Khrushchev salivated for that base and his grand plan involved stationing mid-range and long-range tactical and strategical rackets. the idea was to nullify Turkish, Greek, Italian US based rockets. Albania refused rockets but cooperated to a certain degree with stationing diesel submarines. It was officially 8 of them at the time. Soviets and later Chinese did invest in modernizing the base and creating tunnels on the hills running in the water where subs could dock inside the hills totally protected and camouflaged. after breaking up with Soviets and with China the base slowly lost the teeth, but nevertheless it was shrouded with mystery and a bit of curiosity to the surrounding sea neighbors. On the hands of a modern army it is no doubt an immense strategical point in the Mediterranean theater, but again only if it is integrated with a wider allegiance and interest. On the hands of only one state it is totally controllable no matter how much can be modernized.

Remember under war conditions you start with the nearest bases of the enemy... So.. let all these Greek lands aside.. and take care for your own one. Even if we loose all our lands.. your treason to Balkans will be paid one more time. For sure.. even Turks will feel happy with their gain.. we'll make sure you not to share their happiness.. To remind you... German soldiers left from Greece untouched. Not the collaborators though...

In one hour the 72.000.000 Turks will occupy you ! -------------------------- In '97 you menace as to take with force "Northern Epirus" , the Turks react by menacing you that they will consider an attack against Albania as an attack against Turkey and they will kick your ass ! -------------------------- The Greeks will occupy us ? Yes since the beginning of the WWII Kolas the governor of Corfu ceded the island to the Italians with the condition to unite it with Albania . And Kolas was not Muslim , but an Orthodox Albanophone "Greek" ! -------------------------- ;D
