Kanaris, how many of your relatives would you say are Albanian? This pic is 80 years old.... standing is my Grandfather and to his left is my Grandmother seated is their parents and the other lady is my grandmothers sister....the little girl is my aunt... she's still alive, do you think any of them would pass off as Albs? My grandpappy has something slightly triangular going on with his head... ;D They would pass as Albanian, because we look the same man, majority of Albs and Greek look the same, we all came from the same people and then divided sometime around 3 or 4 thousand years ago.

Kanaris the two elderly men could easily pass for an Albanian, especially the one holding the child on his lap. It's nice to know you have Albanian ancestors like a few other Greek members in here.

I've known a few Albanians, and most of them looked South Slav to me.. I don't know what you people are babbling about (unless those born in the Balkans have a greater intuition of telling people apart). Another one looked like she was from the Caucasus, and another guy who I just couldn't tell.
You're all mixed, and there is no purity in the Balkans, or really anywhere in Europe.
As for me, people usually assume I'm German, Dutch, British (bleh -- thanks a lot), and a few times even Danish (which is funny cause I don't have blonde hair).. I've gotten Polish once or twice but much less so than the other guesses.

When I am in Serbia one feeling that I get sometimes is that I'm in some sort of a cartoon like Dr Seus or maybe something more like Asterix & Obelix. People look SO different a lot of the time with exagerated features. You see tall & skinny next to short & fat. Dark next to blonde. It's almost confusing. Serbs have people that look like Asians (Jelena Jankovic, Marko Pantelic) to stereotypical slavic looking people (Milos Krasic)... to dark Arab looking people (Dejan Stankovic) to... definitely a mojority of tall Dinaric looking people... Serbs seem to have the greatest range. But the overwhealming is Dinaric especially where Serbian identity started in Montenegro. This makes me think that Serbs even if they migrated are more an Iranic/Sarmatian people with a fair degree of mixing with contemporary slavs. Those more contemporary miscellaneous slavs are the ones that are recorded as going through Bulgaria/eastern Serbia Macedonia & Albania which is perhaps why it's quyite common to find stereotypically slavic looking people in Albania & eatsern Serbia/bulgaria whereas the rest of Serbian lands is majority Dinaric.

LOL!!! That's hilarious & true. I've had conversations about this with some of my Serbian friends & we sometimes have a good laugh out of it. The Balkans is definitely mixed. I totally see Dinaric elements crossed over with Slavic in the Serbian & Croatian territories. Dinaric elements can be found in other Slav lands as well.

The most light Greeks I have ever seen in Greece was this summer in the Preveza region.
Kastorianos,
I had seen a book by traveler in Epiros in the early 1800's who noted that the population of Preveza was 80% Albanian speaking. Don't ask for the name of the book because it will require a trip to the NY Public Library.

Patrinos,
Your comment tells me that no matter what the written literature says, you still won't believe it. I had been hopping to go to the library and will get it.
You seem to admire the Albanian fustanella, please enlighten yourself and read how Greeks adapted it.
One question: I have encountered the opinion that you guys get paid or more specifically are encouraged by intelligence sources to counter undesirable information. Any validity to this?

He looks nothing like a Greek. More like a typical Balkanite (Albanian/South Slav). He shares a few facial similarities with a Montenegrin Serb I know.. svenskfotboll.se/ImageVault/Images/id_14041/ImageVaultHandler.aspxA bit like Kosovar-Swede Anel Raskaj, perhaps?
