Yeah the movie is pretty sick, I already wrote about it in the Yugoslavia section a while ago. To me it's like a sarcastic play on the Serbian bad boy image. I just watched that Sylvester Stalone movie and Mickey Rourke goes on about how he took out some Serbian bad boys in Bosnia lol. I've found Serbs have that image in American movies and TV-series in general. Bosniaks are often displayed as victims and helpless which can be annoying too, in a different way. I was watching a random episode of Law and Order the other day and it was about a brother and sister from Bosnia (the writers must be unfamiliar with resarch, because even though they stressed time and again that they were Bosnian Muslims, their names were " Milan" and " Danka" ) who were illegal immigrants to the country and got mixed up in a murder in the midst of things. Anyways, there was the obligatory mention of Serbian atrocities and rape and whatnot, but I didnt finish watching the episode. I havent noticed any similar stereotypes when it comes to Croats in either European or America cinema....while there does tend to be some prejudice against Albanians in European cinema. Not much mention of them (Albanians) in American media though, even though there are more famous Albanian-American actors then either Bosniak or Serbian-American ones.

Yeah, I haven't noticed much stereotyping when it comes to Croats in foreign cinema. One exception is in Savior with Dennis Quaid, there's a Croat soldier killing Serb civilians with a hammer (I'm not making this up!!). Even in ER Dr. Kovac, played by Goran Visnjic, always talks about Serbs shelling his house, but never mentions anything negative about Croats. Meanwhile, anytime you need a bad guy in a movie it's probably going to be a Serb or sometimes an Albanian, while the victim tends to be Bosnian Muslim. They tend to see everything black and white internationally.
This new film, Srpski film, doesn't do anything to alleviate the stereotyping. It just shows violence and sodomy for a couple of hours with an ending that involves a father sodomizing his own son. Srdjan Spasojevic set us even further back with this dumb, graphic film.

Klopka was a fine film, but thats the most extreme Serbs should get. Serbs with "Srpski film" tried to create a cult movie, of pulp culture, and combine messages from the recent hronography of the last troubled decades. I didnt watch the movie, and as a good serb-wannabe that i am, i dont think i will ever watch it.

It's impossible to intellectualize a film you've never seen. Once you see it, the whole notion of artistry or the use of metaphors goes out the window. There's nothing in the film that is in any way socially redeemable, since it was only made for shock value. Either that or Spasojevic is a sociopath, I'm betting it's a combination of both.

"It's impossible to intellectualize a film you've never seen."
unless you are trying to justify why you will not see it. This problem is recursive by definition.

I don't think it has anything to do with Serbs in general, the title is just inflammatory in order to get people to see it. I think its one man's twisted vision of how to snatch the title of most fucked up director from Quentin Tarantino, or Eli Roth.

^^^^^ BINGOThis was made in Serbia thus the tittle a "Serbian Film" I can't believe I watched it. I'm honestly somewhat disturbed and I don't know how long it's going to take me to recover. WTF is wrong with you slavs? So you where that disturbed but you did not hit the stop button and just had to watch it to the end huh? Time for you to harden up a bit princess. You are like those annoying people who watch something and then complain that they where offended etc instead of changing channels or hitting the stop button thus encouraging censorship this movie has plenty of warnings yet you and other princesses choose to ignore the warnings and view it anyway hope you recover soon

Sorry for opening this again after two months but I just finished watching the film. Now I know who the sickest persons in Serbia are - the two screenwriters of this film. I mean, how on earth you can come up with the idea of a father screwing his own son until he bleeds, for fvck's sake?! I should have watched it in the early afternoon, not so late . Anyway, it is definitely a film that will be remembered by everyone who have seen it.
