Requiem for a dream, The Wackness, Its kind of a funny story... I want to watch more films like these, and so if anyone here has any recommendations I would be grateful. In addition to that also comedy movies like Friday, Barbershop, i love you man, and the Hangover would be appreciated. I have a lot of time on my hands at present and am catching up on movies....

Out of those, I have only watched The Hangover, and if you like movies like that, then I recommend Tomcats and, (an oldie but a classic) Bachelor Party, with a young Tom Hanks. ;D

I just watched Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, a film soo many people recommended and I have to say i thought it was average. Turkish movies have been doing this crazy, emotional, funny, heartbreaking, film styles for years!

Yeah but I didn't think that The Hangover was a ladies movie either, it was quite vile in places.

I'm not one of those movie buffs, but I enjoyed Requiem for a Dream. I would recommend "Black Swan" made by the same director, and I thought "The Wrestler" was good (again same director), but a bit overrated.
Personal Favorites include
-Godfather 1 & 2 -Fight Club -The Believer (a lil unknown but a great movie) -Training Day -Pans Labryinth
These are more of my fav modern films off top of my head(although Godfather isn't too modern.) Older movies like Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Rebel Without a Cause (timeless classic imo), Streetcar Named Desire (great play), and thats what I can think of off the top of my head.
As for comedies, I don't find the majority of the newer movies to be funny. I thought Hangover was pretty good and "Shaun of the Dead" is my fav comedy of all time.
Recently saw an indie film "Happythankyoumoreplease" seems similar to "the Wackness"

A feel good comedy I always enjoy watching is Groundhog Day. And an older one is Overboard with Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn. Those movies are classics.

I have seen all the Godfather movies, but honestly... I prefer the untouchables I don't like Brad Pitt generally so I haven't seen fight club, but the film he did, when he played the Devil, I loved that movie, what was it called? Il look up the believer. Training day is an excellent film, and Pans labyrinth... yea it was ok. I prefer the other Labyrinth film with David Bowie tho.. I've added the films I haven't seen to my list thanks... Rebel without a cause is of course an amazing film though. In addition Overboard was a great film, i used to watch that when I was a kid, I still have the VHS I think lol.

Director; |Guy Ritchie
Possibly one of the best films ever made.

I saw "black swan" and it was good but wacked out.
Fight Club, always seemed like a movie for angry and emasculated guys, and, in the final analysis it's a critique of consumer capitalism and the cult of individuality. Of course it's extremely ironic that Brad Pitt should say, in character, "is that how real guys are supposed to look like?" referring to male underwear model poster, when he himself is just another unrealistic example of what a real guy is supposed to look like. (I think I just broke the first rule of fight club!)
I second "the believer" as a good movie, although might not be what DY is looking for here, since this movie is about a jewish guy who develops an intense hatred for jews and becomes a fierce (and intelligent) neo-nazi.
I haven't seen "requiem for a dream" but since it's aronofsky, might I recommend the movie "Pi". It's a nice story about a man's descent into chaos or enlightenment, not sure which.

Requiem for a Dream is a life changing film. I was so shocked by the deepness, I have watched it about 3 times, each time with a different person and people become very affected by the movie, it certainly changed my outlook on certain things, and its hard to influence me. Possibly the best film I have ever seen and will see. Revolver seems my style of film, if it is anything like Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels, which is one of my all time favourite films, I can watch it 100s of times and never get bored. I have heard mixed reviews about Black Swan, emotionally disturbing is one thing a friend said, then again im not a very emotional person and many films that make others cry don't have that effect on me. I am going to wait for a good release of it online. The Believer, if its about Nazis then I will stay away, since it really bothers me what happened in Germany to those poor people, I never got over reading and analysing Anne Franks diary in school. I watched The Reader and was very upset by that film. Pi I shall watch definitely looking at IMDB it does seem my style of film. Thanks for the suggestions and do keep em coming...

Spoilers for Fight Club Of course it's extremely ironic that Brad Pitt should say, in character, "is that how real guys are supposed to look like?" referring to male underwear model poster, when he himself is just another unrealistic example of what a real guy is supposed to look like. (I think I just broke the first rule of fight club!) Yes but you need to take into account that Tyler Durden is the creation of the protagonist. This creation is everything that the protagonist is not. If you remember one part of the film, Durden says: "All the ways you wish you could be, that's me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not. "
Therefore, the protagonist (through capitalst advertising) believes men should be these muscular guys that have a 6 pack (something Tyler Durden is.)

"The Believe"btw is more about the struggle of a Jew with his own identity. Neo-nazism does play a role in the film but it isn't the main theme of the movie.

Kijgol, good analysis - that makes sense, and I hadn't thought of it in that depth. I wonder if the producers meant it that way.
I still think it's kind of ironic because it is Brad Pitt saying it.

@ DY
The Believer is not a nazi movie. It's actually based on a true story about a jewish guy who became a neo-nazi in the 1960's and was outed by a journalist. A good movie really but still might not be something you'd enjoy and it does have a couple flashbacks of Nazi soldiers doing bad things with a bayonet.
If I may also suggest "No country for old men", it does have a strange quality to it, but also some violence.
