lol turkish provinces pitta in greek ----------------- > pide in turkish The suppression and cruelty of the Ottoman domination lasted 400 years.Turks, who were previously a nomadic people, very quickly developed a taste for Greek cookery Not surprising then, in the manner of all conquerors, they also gave Turkish names to classic Greek dishes.Greek cuisine it was so successfully adapted, transformed, and renamed mostly by the Turks and Italians that its Greek origins were all but forgotten.

Alot of the Ottoman cuisine was based on Byzantine meals. Any ''Arabic'' naming was just for Islam

We taught the Turks to eat...the Turks were a nomadic people....how should they develop an extravagant cuisine?
The Byzantine (Greek) cuisine was influenced by the Arabic since both peoples were neighbours for many centuries (the first mosques of Constantinople were built as Arabic mosques... at a time where the Turks were still living in Central Asia...)...we influenced each other...but the Turks are newcomers and adopted everything...everything "turkish" in this field is actually just Arabic and was probably already in use much time before the Ottomans put a foot on Asia Minor...
