macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/19231/2/Skopje Becoming Top Balkan Tourist Destination Wednesday, 28 September 2011 Macedonia's capital, Skopje, for the first time has surpassed the number of tourists visiting Ohrid, by 55%, according to the State Statistics Office. The new architecture (bridges, museums, fountains, monuments, sports arenas...) being built around the city has brought in tourists not just from the region, but from allover the world. Skopje hoteliers have registered 33% increase in bookings by foreigners. Needless to say, Macedonia's basketball team further put the country on the world map. Neighbors take noticeBelgrade based newsportal B92 reported the Serbian Government is seriously considering copying some of Skopje's projects, in particularly the "Porta Makedonija". Zagreb's mayor has visited Skopje and asked whether he could obtain the services of the firm and architects who designed the new Macedonian museum for a similar project in Zagreb.

Macedonia's top tourist destination is Ohrid, which ranks among Europe's top destinations overall. Skopje has now surpassed this for the first time, and this is mainly due to the recent refurbishment of the city. I guess people like the Skopje 2014 project.

Gyrro, Ohrid is old Bulgarian capital, a Bulgarian town with rich Bulgarian history - you ll find zero serbian artefacts/sightseeings.

Very ancient indeed. About 300 years BC when the first settlement of Serbs was recorded.

If Serbs were storming NORTH of Ohrid and SOUTH of Ohrid, i see no point why not in Ohrid as well. PS Dude, Bulgars never reached that west. All things remotely ressembling Bulgarian is the (few) jakavica toponyms, but even they must have been ancient Antes-Ukranian-Russian.

Great logic Gyrro! So you accept the slavic toponyms as Ukrainian and Russian eventhough we are talking about lands ruled for centuries by the Bulgarians. You are indeed very "impartial". Obviouslly you are absolutely detatched from the reality and you are not searching for any truth, but rather try to imagine "facts" that suits your agenda. Serbs were storming ONLY for sightseeing in Ohrid. Nothing Serbian there. Some Serbian influence can be felt only in the very northwest of Macedonia. Neither Epirus, nor Macedonia (minus northwest) exprecienced any Serbian influence.

(while ... formally it was 30 years under Serb rule) Anyways, the toponyms speak for themselves...

I guess people like the Skopje 2014 project. Of course they do. All those people who were making fun of it were just jealous. Good to hear people are visiting too. Can't wait until all the constructions are complete.

"Anyways, the toponyms speak for themselves..." Ah yes, the famous Bu Lgarski inscription from Trnovo, Bitola. Where it states that their Khan had taken lands from the SRBI. Lets have a look here, Trnovo is pronounced in BuLgarski as T arnovo ;D In the Serbian accent its pronounced as Trnovo, not T arnovo LMAO PS 1 In Bu Lgarska there is a place called MALKO T ARNOVO PS 2 Trnovo is also found in Bosnia/CG and l believe Croatia

Is it possible that during those years under Serbian rule, Tarnovo became Trnovo?

^ Again, its not about perception! Propaganda dictates that Fyromians are Bulgarians influenced by Serbian Empires.....might be the other way round Napoleon. Fyromians HAVE a Serbian accent when they speak, they don't DARKEN words like Trnovo to Tarnovo, Crno Gora to Cherno Gora etc.....
