Hellenism and Jewish nationalism: ambivalence and its ancient roots
Leoussi A. S.; Aberbach D.
Abstract:
This essay sketches the ambivalent relationship of Hebraism and Hellenism from ancient times to the foundation of modern Israel. It analyses classical Greek influence on the Jewish Enlightenment (the Haskalah) and modern Jewish nationalism, particularly as reflected in Hebrew literature. Greece's successful struggle for independence from Ottoman Turkey in the 1820s showed the early Zionists that an ancient nation could be resurrected. Also, the ancient Greek ideal of physical education, revived in nineteenth-century Europe, radically transformed both Christian and Jewish attitudes to the body, giving rise to two related movements, "muscular Christianity" and "muscular Judaism". As the assimilationist attempts of the Haskalah broke down in the late nineteenth century under the burden of anti-Semitism and European racial nationalism, "muscular Judaism" was incorporated into Zionism. Jewish nationalists largely rejected rabbinic spirituality, non-belligerence and the disdain for athleticism which had dominated Jewish life after Rome destroyed the Jewish state in 70 CE. dienekes.blogspot.com/2004/10/hellenism-and-jewish-nationalism.htmlwww.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/0141987022000000259

The Jews got expelled to South Greece. There are no Jews living in Southern Greece. The Jews were mainly found in the Northern Greece such as Thessaloniki which they had a large community spanning around eighty thousand, they were eventually sent to Poland by the Germans during the Second Wolrd War - very few survived. Any Jews in the Peloponnese were also purged along side the Turks during the Greek War of Independence in 1821. The Jews were known to be anti Independence since it would have threatened their status amongst the Ottoman Empire and it would have threatened their business interests. The Jews that lived in the Peloponnese originated from the Roman era while the Jews from the North of Greece not only came from the Roman era but also the Ottoman era - they were fleeing persecution in Spain - and allowed to settle in Thessaloniki by the Ottoman Sultan. Jews have always been a very small minority in Greece.

Greeks are descendants of Ancient Greeks but i don't think that video is historically accurate. It also states that Ancient Epirus was not Greek. Where is the evidence that the Jews colonized the Peloponnese at the time of Moses?
