A New York City man whose parents are Kosovo Albanians was sentenced to 27 years in prison Friday for traveling to the Middle East in a failed bid to join al-Qaida and avenge abuse of Muslims by killing American troops. "I wish I had not gone down that path," Betim Kaziu told U.S. District Judge John Gleason before hearing the sentence in federal court in Brooklyn. "I completely regret what I did in that phase of my life." But Gleason said it was first time he'd hear the defendant express remorse – and that it wasn't convincing. "You grew up in Brooklyn and you decided to murder your own country's soldiers," Gleason said. "There's still an element of defiance in you. ... You're still way too proud of becoming a jihadist." The government had sought a life term, arguing that Kaziu could resume his quest to commit terrorism if given anything less. A jury found the 24-year-old Kaziu guilty last year of conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization and other charges last year at a trial that featured the testimony of a would-be terrorist and childhood friend of the defendant who became a government cooperator. Unlike the cases of Najibullah Zazi, mastermind of a foiled suicide attack on New York City subways, or Faisal Shahzad, the failed Times Square bomber, Kaziu's case received little attention, in part because the plot didn't get far. But his story had many of the same themes of homegrown terrorism. Kaziu and star witness Sulejah Hadzovic were two U.S.-born sons of Islamic immigrants from Kosovo and Bosnia who met in sixth grade. By 2008, "they pursued a growing interest in radical Islam" and began searching the Internet for opportunities to take up arms against U.S. troops. macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/20493/61/articles.boston.com/2012-03-02/news/31117705_1_betim-kaziu-faisal-shahzad-najibullah-zazi

Interesting choice of headline, both by the Macedonian newspaper and you. The Macedonian newspaper decides to take an American written article with the title "NYC man gets 27 years in homegrown terror case" and leave it as it is, just changing one little detail by changing the original headline to "Another Kosovo Albanian Charged with Terrorism in USA".
From what I have read from this newspaper it is clear that the newspaper is quite biased against Albanians. In general it likes to present anything that is Albanian in a bad light while representing anything Macedonian in a good light.

I couldn't fit "USA" in the thread-title and the first article I read was the Macedonian headline which I copied and pasted from. That pic of the guy looks photoshopped. I don't think this is "about Albanians" as I figure you take it. It's more about exposing something what was around already for a long time, and up to now hasn't been talked about (for whatever reasons). This isn't the first time. Maybe it's a lie/propaganda or maybe it's the absolute truth. That pic alone raises questions, they were better off not displaying it at all.

I think this is the real deal, just that you wouldn't have seen similar headlines being used in other places. Going by the headline by the Macedonian newspaper, this is everyday cost and Albanians (Kosovars in particular) are doing similar things and getting caught for it at enormous rates, which isn't true. This is also directed at a particular (ethnic) group, you would have never seen anything similar in western countries.

Either way it doesn't matter, the first paragraph in most western papers clarrify his origin anyway. Tho many still to this day judge the story by the headline, or by the cover. I am glad you notice that propaganda technique.

Kaziu, a U.S. citizen, was arrested in Kosovo in 2009. While traveling in Cairo, Kaziu sought to join Al-Shabaab, a group fighting to overthrow the government in Somalia, U.S. prosecutors said. He tried to travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan and sought to buy an AK-47 on the black market, the U.S. said. He was also seeking to attack NATO troops in Kosovo, where some U.S. troops were stationed, according to prosecutors. www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-02/new-york-man-who-touted-bin-laden-on-myspace-gets-27-years-in-prison.html

NYPD targeted Staten Island Albanian communitySTATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Albanian Islamic Cultural Center in Tompkinsville was among several sites under surveillance in that neighborhood by the NYPD, based on a secret department report obtained by The Associated Press. (See full report below.)- All of the six Tompkinsville businesses listed as under surveillance were mentioned as being owned and/or patronized by Albanians. The sites located on Victory Boulevard near the center were Video Ulqini, Emil's Halal Meats, Rey's Pizza, V & A Deli & Grocery and Giannini Hair Salon. The Albanian Cafe nearby on Cebra Avenue also was being watched. - "At the heels of such increasingly revealing reports, increasing community mobilization and mounting public pressure from Muslim communities, lawmakers, and even the FBI, the NYPD is manipulatively trying to hold sham meetings without addressing the concerns of the community or admitting the NYPD actions as wrong if not illegal," read a statement from the protesting groups.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Friday again called on the administration of President Barack Obama to address revelations that the NYPD kept secret files on businesses solely because they were owned by Muslims. CAIR urged the president to speak out against what the group regards as the NYPD's blatant use of religious profiling. - "It is indisputable that the NYPD is engaged in a widespread campaign of religious profiling targeting the American Muslim community," wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to Obama.- www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2012/03/nypd_surveillance_of_muslims_o.htmlNYPD; Albanian Locations of Concern; report here; www.scribd.com/doc/84749539/NYPD-Albanian-Locations-of-Concern

How does it feel to be so utterly powerless as to feel the necessity to live so vicariously through a web forum where your only recourse is to troll a sub-forum that you do not find in your interest? So far all you seem to do is to aimlessly antagonize and demonize Albanians here and the little state that they have managed to construct in the aftermath of nearly 100 years of Serb violent and destruction (which saw its conclusion in 1999). All of this while the Serbian case of the yellow house has crumbled (aka lost media attention), the last batch of Serbs in Kosovo will undoubtedly dwindle, Father Russia is undergoing upheavals that have shifted interests internally and the Serb PM Tadic is moving ever closer in the path towards acceptance and then undoubtably, for the sake of stability, recognition (it took Germany 50 years to accept the loss of Silesia and East Prussia). Meanwhile, you are here, in a dwindling forum posting news that doesn't go further than a minor online newspaper while the world keeps on turning as you hope it will stop for a moment to recognize your position. Oh to be a serb nationalist... I don't envy your anger and frustration...
While everyone is worried about today, your worried about yesterday...
