KANDAHAR -- A U.S. soldier was detained after shooting to death at least 17 civilians near his base in Kandahar province Sunday morning, said local rep Hadji Aghi Lalaya.
-
The American soldier walked out of an advanced U.S. military base and opened fire on civilians, killing and wounding several, provincial governor Tooryalai Wesa said, though he did not provide an exact number.
-
"The incident happened. There are some people killed, some wounded. But I don't have the details," The Guardian quoted Wesa as saying.
NATO forces spokesman Justin Brockhoff confirmed several people were wounded in the incident, but did not report any killed.
U.S. forces are investigating the shooting.

US soldier kills 16 Afghans, deepening crisis
The killing spree deepened a crisis between U.S. forces and their Afghan hosts over Americans burning Muslim holy books on a base in Afghanistan. The burnings sparked weeks of violent protests and attacks that left some 30 people dead. Six U.S. service members have been killed by their Afghan colleagues since the Quran burnings came to light, but the violence had just started to calm down.

U.S. Soldier Kills 16 Afghans
A U.S. service member reportedly walked out of a military base in southern Afghanistan on Sunday and went on a shooting spree in the middle of the night, opening fire on three nearby homes and killing at least 16 Afghan civilians. Afghan President Hamid Karzai said the dead included nine children and three women. The U.S. soldier has been detained, but it’s not immediately known what prompted the shooting. Anti-American sentiments have been high since it was revealed last month that U.S. soldiers had accidentally burned a number of copies of the Muslim holy book the Quran, which sparked a wave of angry, deadly riots.

This is pretty brutal and barely anyone is talking about it. I wonder if the soldier will be tried for war crimes, maybe his cheif gave a hate speech not long before and got him amped to commit attrocities. It seems to me that the officer in charge should be held accountable as well, along with the commander in cheif back in the u.s of a. What does the UN or the Hague tribunal have to say about this, besides the same old sad-story rhetoric? "this shouldn't happen", "We condemn such actions", "Those responsible will pay".... in the meantime all this gets lost in the news and no one knows how it all concluded....haaa who am I kidding, this isn't the first time this shit happened, and most likely will not be the last, one thing is certain no one gives a fuck because they tell you to not give a fuck.
