TIRANA -- The Albanian government has offered asylum to 210 members of an Iranian opposition group that currently live at a former U.S. military base near Baghdad.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha said Saturday after meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf, the U.N. envoy in Iraq, Martin Kobler, and other officials that asylum was offered to the group dubbed Mujahedeen-e-Khalq for "humanitarian reasons," AP has reported. Iraq's government is eager to have the group, Mujahedeen-e-Khalq , out of the country.
The group opposes Iran's clerical regime and carried out assassinations and bombings in Iran until renouncing violence in 2001, AP points out.
Its members fought in the 1980s alongside Saddam Hussein's forces in the Iran-Iraq war.

The Church has an obligation to protect our heroes; if that's where you're trying to get at.

Unless I missed the part in the Bible where it says, 'Protect thy heroes.'

Unless I missed the part in the Bible where it says, 'Protect thy heroes.' Put it this way, the Church has an obligation to take anyone in whose "in need".

Put it this way, the Church has an obligation to take anyone in whose "in need". That's not really true either, is it? Although many churches grant a safe haven to the poor and sometimes to refugees, the church has no obligation to harbor those sought by justice or those who seek a roof over their head. Otherwise, heck, all vagabonds and homeless people would knock on the church's door. All criminals, too. There would be no prisons in Serbia no more because all criminals would just heed to the church. The church is very selective over who is taken in.

There would be no prisons in Serbia no more because all criminals would just heed to the church. The church is very selective over who is taken in. It is true however I do not know what guidelines they follow. For instance the Church is not a political entity and the priest is not a judge nor cannot act like one, when they allow someone in they take up the responsibility to protect them. It goes along with the rule that no armed officers are allowed in the Church yet I am sure they're exceptions for everything. I guess the "guest" has to plea his case before being accepted. Concerning times of war, it should be no surprise to anyone that soldiers who were considered fugitives were hiding in monasteries, the monastery being Serbian. Running to a monastery for protection is the last resort, once there, they're kind of trapped.
