Congrats to Mother Albania .....more good work ahead needed !
EU sets Albania on road to membership
(Reuters) - The European Union set Albania on the road to membership on Tuesday, granting the small Balkan state the status of candidate to join in recognition of recent reforms, while warning the government that progress was conditional on further efforts.
Years of political polarisation have slowed democratic reforms in Albania and kept it behind some of its ex-Yugoslav peers. But a change of government last September opened the way for an EU-backed reform push. [ID:nL6N0OL2SH]
"Congratulations on candidate status just agreed," EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said on Twitter. "(It is an) acknowledgement of reform efforts, encouragement for more."

Albania is the Scorpion, Greece is the Frog?
How an article in Kathimerini got it all wrong and may show more about Greece than its northern smaller neighbor
An article in the Greek daily Kathimerini, illustrated the relations between Albania and Greece with the one between the Scorpion and the Frog in a famous Aesop fable. For those who don’t know the fable, a scorpion begs the frog to carry it to the other side of the river. The frog is afraid to do it, but the scorpion explains that if it stung the frog, they would both drown. The frog agrees and yet midway across the river the scorpion stings the frog. As they are going down, the frog asks why it did it and the scorpion replies: “I can’t help it, it’s my nature”. Now jumping from Aesop to Stavros Tzimas (the author of the article in Kathimerini) apparently Albania is the scorpion, Greece is the frog and the other bank of the river is the European Union member-candidate status. The article claims that Greece carried Albania on its shoulders so that the neighboring country could win the recommendation of the European Commission for the candidate member status. However, apparently loyal to its treacherous nature, Albania seems to have stung Greece on the back as soon as EC announced its decision. The sting, according to Kathimerini article came in the form of the current Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, asking the General Attorney for an investigation on the negotiating team of Albanian diplomats, who in 2009 stroke a sea border demarcation agreement with Greece. The agreement was eventually annulled by the Constitutional Court of Albania, but one of the involved diplomats was Lulzim Basha, current leader of the opposition and then Minister of Foreign Affairs.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA You know the European Union has hit it's lowest point when they talk about Albania having entry, this couldn't have happen in any of our wildest dreams.
this will only gas their heads up further. Most Albanians didn't even know what shoes were till they were "invaded" and "colonized". Unbelievable.
Most EU member nations want out, go figure a nation like Albanians would be only excited to enter. The Albanian will never be equal to the Indo-European and this is why he shall take any carrot he can get his hands on.

and by the way, you seem to be eager in celebrating but do you know what this means?
Albania will become the gateway, and Islamic center of Europe. In the middle-east they celebrate Albania all the time for being the only Islamic "European nation" in Europe, in any case at least they'll feel at home in Tirana.

rex i do not know the secret acenta of the greek government therefore, under greek presidency of the eu council. has publically committed to advance the european perspective of albania remember while many european countries was negative in giving status of candidate country to albania ... while the 2009 agreement on maritime zones collapse completely you betray us with turkish fingers ! we know turks and albanians are best friends nothing new ... albania and greece to solve passports issue .-- what a miracle national greek minority in albania, is an issue that every greek minister so far, declares the same cliche: “the route of albania towards the european union, comes through the respect of human rights of the northern epirots in albania etc ... sorry from my view i don't see any progress in the greek-albanian relationship !!!

the water issues I know very little of ...just that certain politicians made money by giving the rights to the waterway to greece
the only people that can give anything is exactly that -the people- not a few people in politics
