Ruger Boskovic, famous and world wide known scientifist from 18th century is
not Croatian as Croatian and communist propaganda used to lie but Serbian. His
paternal grandfather Bosko came from Orahovo, a village in Popovo Polje in
Hercegovina, the ancient Hum of medieval serbia and part of Serbian Republic
in Bosnia today. Some 8 kilometers from Dubrovnik there is a village Orahov
Dol, which now falls in so called Croatia, called Orahovo for short by his
inhabitant. In both Orahovos the surnamr Boskovic figures in the old baptismal
records, though in Orahov Dol the Boskovic family later became known as Krstic
(pure Serbian sername: cross in Serbian is krst while in Croatian kriz) and
Tomicic; in both the Ruger Boskovic legend is cultivated.
The name of his father was Nicolas (serbian name not Croatian), and mother
Pavica (most probably changed his name in ortodox christian one). She was an
Italian , the daughter from Baro Bettera. Her ancestors Pietro Bettera came
from Bergamo in Noth Italy. He could not be called at all Croatian.
Evenmore there was a tradition in the family that Boskovic were decended from
Pokrajcic noble family, one of whom called himself Boskovic after Bosko from
Orahovo. When Boskovic was a distinguished scholar moving in high society he
supported his nobility by sealing his letters with seal of his family's crest.
