Serbia's first psycho-thriller
Author: Vladimir Djuric Djura | 31.10.2007 - 06:00
An ambitious thriller “The fourth man” directed by Dejan Zecevic will have its premiere showing tonight at the “Sava Center” in Belgrade. The fantastic life story of the major from the Military Security Agency (Nikola Kojo) is the film which will open this year’s “Cinemania”.
Zecevic has already left behind several cult film like “Decak iz Junkovca“ (“A Boy from Junkovac”), “Mala nocna muzika“ (“Little night music”) and “TT sindrom“ (“T.T.Syndrome”). True to his principles of shooting the films according to the strict models of a particular genre, Zecevic has made this thriller.
“I consider “The Fourth Man” as my most significant work, since I have an impression that he starts the new and more serious phase in my career. There is no direct relation between this film and “The Third Man” directed by Carol Reed with Orson Welles in terms of its content. I cannot explain the title of “The fourth man” since I would spoil the enjoyment of the audience. The relation can be found in the genre of noar films, “The Third Man” being the representative. The genre of thrillers has had a very long tradition, so it is impossible to avoid leaning on the previous authors and films. However, my wish was to make an authentic Serbian film and I think that we have succeeded,” Dejan Zecevic said for “Blic”, adding: “There have been many influences on shooting the film, from noar films from the ’40, French detective films from the ‘70s, New Hollywood films and South-Korean art-extravagances”.
“The Fourth Man” is definitively something new in our cinematography. Some scenes were even shot with the assistance of MUP helicopter and anti-terrorist units.
