Enver Hoxha was the devil himself. He was worse than Stalin, Hitler, Castro, and a bunch of other dictators combined. He singl-handedly kept Albanians in prison for 50+ years, he single-handedly kept Albania 100 years back when Europe was going forward. You can still see the effects of his dictatorship in Albania, wish some people there being so close minded, and some people there hating their own country.
Thank god that he died, and thank god for democracy. (which was kind of late, but oh well)

I wouldn’t comment his internal policies though i hate those politicians who fell in love with themself, sick personality cult. But his foreign policies were definetly bad, just imagine u are in the Warsaw pact, in his place i would offer the Soviets to give some army or navy bases if in exchange they develop Albanian infrastructure, roads, airports, harbors from CCCP budget. Also COMECOM would be good market for Albanian products so more development for Alb industry.. U could profit much more from your strategic location during the cold war if not this stupid isolationism and „everybody is our enemy” thingy…

like every dictatorial regime, communsm was bound to fail....unless it is willing to reinvent itself and borrow from other ideologies,
Hoxha. was a complex individual, let not let feelings/experiences get involved when analysing him, especially people with limited knowledge on what it was like, albania was underdeveloped way before totalitarianism took hold, we were ravaged from wars and oppression before that, during the ottoman occupation we lost all of our brain, its no suprise that when the albanian reinascance emerged in the late 18'th all of our patriotic doctrine was being fed from outside the albanian border, all of our literature came from abroad, albanian intellectuals who lived outside, of course cummunism did not help, but its not entirely to blame for the lack of progress, remember we had neighbours who always plotted and schemed lurking beyond our border, always trying to mount an offensive, so in that regard isolation ensured our territorial integrity post independence, i strongly believe that if we were were to instate a flimsy democracy during the cold war, we would have chopped up by greeks and serbs, but the resolve of regime fended off any threat,
also there was a burst of unprecedented progress in the 60's and early 70's, remember we had no electricity and illiteracy was rampant, hoxha changed all that whilst consolidating the state,
but, there was a price to pay, allienation and indiscriminate murder, imprisonment and torture, the inability to change and be flexible cost us dear, we should have changed the attitude during the early 80's, opened the borders and should have looked for allies in the west, but by then a murderous political elite with so many skeletons in their closet was apprehensive of repercussions and unwilling to relinquished the absolute power they had come to think it was their devine right,
so like every major political player who has left his mark in history, Hoxha is a complex individual, so before we hasten to premature conclusions, we should look beneath surface.

He DID protect Albania though... We must give him credit for that. If it wasn't for a power-wiling person like him, neither Kosovo or Albania would exist today.... We would be a stateless nation possibly like the Kurds. Albania would probably only get its second independence from Russia in 1990. Just think about it. Other than that there is nothing to be greeted about Hoxha.

It's against the law to buy or sell fireworks in some states, if you do it, you know you will have to face the consequences and possibly jail time. ALL SOCIETIES HAVE LAWS! |
