^^ Yea Luka is an atypical Albanian name outside of the Malsia Catholic region, I have heard a few Lucaj last names, but, again, they are from the Catholic north. Thanks! Do they speak gegë in the north, right? And Lucë, Luc, and LLuci are atypical outside the north? I found these names in the toskë speaking area. As names, surnames and toponyms. Example: Mal Lucë www.indexmundi.com/z/?lat=40.0666667&lon=19.95&t=m&r=200&p=mal_luce&cc=al&c=albaniaMal

Yep.
As a surname, its possibly that a person who came from the Mount Luce area received the surname from the area of his origin. I have very rarely heard of an Albanian surname containing a double L. And apparently I heard the names wrong. What kind of c is there in the Lluci? A heavy ç as in chaste or the lighter c (almost a ts).

I think that albanian name Lukan is name that derivated and comes from animal UK (Ujk) which means Wolf. We have many people in albania that have name Luka for male and Luke or Lukie for females. Also there in Albania many people names and surnames are UKA or UJKAJ. (Wolf Lupo-Lupa) You're right! There are two possible explanations for Luka (and maybe others). Lukas/Lucas from proto-indoeuropean *Leuk (through Leukos/Loukas...) =light Lukas/Lucas from ulk (albanian), lykos (greek), vrkas (sanscrit), vluku (ancient slavic)... from PIE *wlqwos/*lukwos =wolf In latin Lucus means "sacred grove", and this word is connected to both of them: wolves live in the grove; in the sacred grove sacrifices were performed around a fire (light) or at the first light rays from sun (light). www.etymonline.com/wolf.phpwww.etymonline.com/index.php?term=wolf

thats kind of weird like ...
my half side Luke clan has a designated job (for many generations) of keeping a candle lit 24/7 at a kind of fountains that is religious/sacred like.and its in a grove like setting of the foot of a small mountain also they use to maintain a small Church nearby it ... even though they are Muslims today ...and the Church and fountain has some kind of connection

Hi lucas.
You need to differentiate between the two names; Luka among Albanian names is of the same origin as your Italian Luca, the English Luke or Germanic Lukas. It is of Christian origins and I highly doubt it comes from Albanian 'ulk' (wolf) as we already have such names related to that animal, such as Ukë, Ukshin, Ujkan etc.
Luc, on the others hand, is pronounced 'Luts', or as the touble 'z' in Italian, e.g. pizza. This probably comes from Latin Lucius, and cannot come from 'ulk' because 'c' in our language is pronounced as 'ts'.
Both of these names are restricted to Catholic Albanians of the highlands and Kosova, which further testifies to their Roman-Catholic origins. We laos have two other similiar sounding names; Leka, which is a diminutive of Alexander, and Lika which many think is the modern version of an ancient Illyrian name, Licca.

English form of the Greek name Λουκας (Loukas) which meant "from Lucania", Lucania being a region in Italy. Or the Etymology; Luke Look up Luke at Dictionary.com masc. proper name, from L. Lucas (Gk. Loukas), contraction of Lucanus lit. "of Lucania," district in Lower Italy, home of the Lucani, a branch of the Sabelline race. www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=Loukas&searchmode=nlLIICANIA. encyclopedia.jrank.org/LEO_LOB/LIICANIA.htmlBoth of these names are restricted to Catholic Albanians of the highlands and Kosova, which further testifies to their Roman-Catholic origins. We laos have two other similiar sounding names; Leka, which is a diminutive of Alexander, and Lika which many think is the modern version of an ancient Illyrian name, Licca. No mention of any connection with the Illyrians on this ? How did you make this connection Maybe I am missing something
