Machiavelli1389:
How Backward Are We?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Some would say, or as I should correct my self most would say that the Balkan Countries in a way or another are “backward.” In a sense I agree, however is that so bad? Despite wars and atrocities and the unsteadiness of this area, I feel that the backward notion given to these countries is in a way a positive assessment. In America I cant walk the streets with a beer in a hand shouting what is on my mind, however in most these countries I could do this with freedom, perhaps with ridicule from people around but nevertheless freedom to do so, however I would get slapped with a drunk in public for just appearing drunk in public in America, the so called most civilized nation and model for the world.
Drinking of Alcohol in the Balkans or for that matter anywhere in Europe is not considered such an extreme, however in the Great Nation of America it is a way to exploit powers of making money thus making the drinking age 21 and creating high Ticket prices for breaking of this law (There are many and many more exploitations like this), however you can be forced to join the military in a draft at the age of 18… Hmmm. Don’t have all my rights, but I can die for you and pay taxes for you… Strange isn’t it?
In many respects I would be less bothered and hindered in many of these countries in the Balkans then in America by law, however this could cause outbreaks of crime and so forth which is apparent in the Balkans… But where people fail to see is the overwhelming similarities of big corporations and people in power in America and the traditional “Mafia.” Also these crime outbreaks, which are more obviously seen, are also highly apparent in Small parts of America, where Police wont even go into (Black Neighborhoods in L.A, California for example). Also you can cite a form of unsteadiness in this area, where as Serbia’s Prime minister was assassinated not long ago, however wasn’t there an assassinate attempt on Regan only 23 years ago, or a successful one (Some as many, as I, believe on Conspiracy with Government) on Kennedy.
As far as education goes, I feel the Balkans have a much more rigorous curriculum pre-College then America, however in America it is so preached to go to further education after the required education as a child, thus another exploitation in my opinion because of the price to go to college and there are exceptions to the payment however when it is paid it is a hefty price (Also the need of college in many job aspects is part of this exploitation), I believe many people have an ignorant view of the world and a lack of interest of the world in America, thus making the country more stable.
Some would argue living conditions and wealth as a country as a whole, however living conditions in both Albanian and Serbia is all not that bad at all… Living conditions in parts of the USA are far worse… With exceptions of rural areas that have no flowing water or electricity however I don’t see that as a poor way of living but rather a way of living and a rather peaceful one. A monthly payment in Serbia is on average around 100-150 U.S dollars, however there is a difference in how much living costs in each of the countries, by all means it is difficult to live all alone in both the Balkans and America with no help…
Democratic countries especially America preaches Opportunity or the so-called “America dream,” Rags to riches or should I say. I believe that ambition is a drive of a person that creates opportunity rather then the place itself, the difference in opportunity between the so called backward countries and the civilized countries, in my opinion not much of a discrepancy. There are many freedoms in America, but many that are considerably restricted; however there are many things that don’t seem so wrong at all (nudity, some language etc) that are considerably restricted…
The lifestyles are also very different, and I favor the Balkans lifestyle, I feel at leisure in the Balkans in casual relaxation as I see with most the people, While in America I feel rush, hurry, and a anxiety to find something wrong or something to always to or worry about…. I feel a clash in-between the two, so called “backward” and civilized. Backward or Forward I believe no country is, however each has its ups and downs and its search for an in-between for there will never be a Utopia, is America a model? Perhaps in some respects, but certainly not all, Are the Balkans a model, certainly in some respects but again not in all and an extremely not in a few respects, however how backward are we?
~Machiavelli.
PS: I incorporated All/Most of the Balkans, I assume from things I read and from influence of Europe that Albania has many similarities to Serbia, For Serbia/Bosnia/Croatia/Macedonia are the only ones I really know, first hand etc.
