Aleksandar Gajic, the scriptwriter and director, is finishing the first Serbian feature-length animated film “Tehnotise - Edit and me“, which premiere is planned for November. The soundtrack music is composed by Boris Furduj and Bob Strumberger, as well as the film trailer. The film be presented on “Urban Stage” at the EXIT festival on Saturday, July 12 at 9.40 PM.
The plot of this extraordinary, animated, since-fiction film is put in Belgrade in 2074. The main character is Edit, an average girl and a psychology student. After her sixth unsuccessful attempt to pass an exam, she decides to have the chip installed to help her pass her exams. From that moment, her life changes and unusual things start happening to her..
In technical terms, the film is combination of four kinds of animations. The main esthetic model for the film was Japanese anima, realistic drawing with static scenes, with emphasized atmosphere and with authentic artistic expression.
The film author is Aleksandar Gajic, the famous and acknowledged cartoonist, who says for “Blic” that apart his successful international career of the cartoonist, he has been interested in animated films for several years: “As far as the choice of the genre is concerned, it is very simple- I like science-fiction, it describes unbelievable things, but we soon realize that they actually might be probable. Edit is imagined as a realistic character in order to make the audience identify with her. She is simple, ordinary girl in unusual circumstances. I insisted on situations that might take place nowadays as well, and then transferred them as caricatures into a futuristic environment. I actually wanted this film to resemble a classical domestic film, but with flying cars and robots. The blend of these to esthetics will probably be very interesting to foreign and domestic audience.”
Animated characters have the voices of the famous characters, such as Petar Kralj, Seka Sabljic, Srdjan Todorovic, Nikola Djuricko, Nebojsa Glogovac, Marija Karan and others. The main character Edit will have the voice of Sanda Knezevic, who says for “Blic”: “The whole film is an interesting futuristic story which contains mysticism, action and love. The characters are realistic, which undoubtedly brings them closer to the audience. Edit is a gentle girl, who just like everyone, has both good and bad days. Unusual science-fiction things happen to her, changing her life and herself. However, the most important thing in the times when technology is incessantly improving is that the essence of human soul never changes.”
Talking about the place of science-fiction today and its possibility to deal with topics and issues related to reality, Gajic points out: “In this time of media, we are deluged with all kinds of information, but at the same time we are hungry to have more. We constantly have new possibilities and solutions which again open bring new problems. People live at high pace and they are used to it. The film construction itself illustrates that. Science- fiction films show interesting situations in modern visualization. That is another reason why we deal with science-fiction in animated film-it simply provides many interesting things for illustration; and above all, I am an illustrator and illustration is my way of looking at things”.
