source: www.emportal.co.yu/en/news/serbia/49352.htmlVolkswagen interested in manufacturing in Serbia 05. May 2008. | 09:06 05:40 Danas Volkswagen is interested in building a factory in Kragujevac due to the available expert and cheap labor force and solid infrastructure. According to Serbian minister of economy Mladjan Dinkic, the strategic partnership between Fiat and Zastava does not mean that Volkswagen is giving up on coming to Serbia and launching production in Kragujevac. The minister says that Volkswagen announced such intentions during their recent visit to Zastava’s production facilities. Volkswagen is interested in building a factory in Kragujevac due to the available expert and cheap labor force and solid infrastructure. Additionally, cars manufactured in Kragujevac can be exported to CEFTA members with duty relieves.

^ A Japanese "investment" is happenning. a Japanese machine maker has sold Zastava some japanese quipment.
The Korean investment failed because the interest company Daewoo went bankrupt years ago. Since then no Koreans have planned to invest in Zastava.
Personally I'd like Tata motors of India to do business with Zastava.

Serbs are mech. engineering-wise some 20 years behind, and i wander why say that about tata. I work in a big greek shipping company, and we have lots a indian officers and 2 offices in delhi/mumbai + i am the IT s/w manager in the Athens office.
I tell you, both computer-wise, machinery-wise Indians suck. I hate to say that, since they seem to be friendly and good ppl anyways, but with tata, transfer of knowledge to Kragujevac whould zero. Serbia is in europe and there she should built relations. (we'll come back to them all, when we are strong, not now).

Also i think that Daewoo cars were just renamed to chevrolet, Daewoo were bought by GM, and certainly they didnt go out of business. And buying from japan, means Serbs invested in Japan, rather vice versa.

And buying from japan, means Serbs invested in Japan, rather vice versa. Thats why I put quotation makrs around investment. It was reported as a Japanese investment in Serbia, but it wasn't. Daewoo is now just a manufacturing subsidy of GM, it is not an independent car company. Cars under the Daewoo name are no longer made.

Here in greece (yes i am back from Brcko - d*mnit!) all previous classic daewoo models, now are branded as chevrolet, and daellas the importing company was renamed to chevellas, and all business and xactions are still done with korea. The only "GM" those cars have is the chevy badge. Also i doubt they carry one single american part.
