Lately in Albanian television stations a news was spread from the institut of Genetic's of Albania. Our genes are very close to Nordic people(Germans, Sweeds, Norvegians). The news was met with heavy skepticism from all Albanian sources but the Instituts people were insisting that they had consulted their findings with known European genetist's. They mentioned a name that I don't remember. The Institut's people had presented their theory to an International genetics conference in 1997. The main question that why don't we look like them ,when our genes are so close, they were mentioning as an argument the geografical conditions and some racial mixtures during the course of history. Previously was beleived that Albanians are Mediterranean people and our gene characteristics should be close to Greeks, Italians or other mediterranians. But genetic findings tell, that our differences are great. Since I am not a genetists, the way I understood the news was that, our genes were only 3 points different from the Nordics compared with 17 point difference of Greeks with Nordics. Our gene characteristics were of great difference with Greeks and Italians. Neritan Ceka an well known Albanian archeologist said that they have been aware of that finding and that was not someyhing new. Some others disputed the theory but they were not genetists. The first one to claim Northern heretage of Albanians were Hitler's anthropologists. They noticed that Albanian sculls are very close with that of Nordics. Their theory was thrown away as a nazy tactic to get us cooperate with them. But this one of genetic aproximity can not easily been manipulated and thrown away. The genetists were not saying that we are Germanic race, they were saying that we comfortably genetically fit with Northern races and as a result our origin is from north. Period. The theory has not yet been subject of opponence from foreign sources so we have to wait and see their counter arguments. So we have to be carefull not to take this as 100% true untill the opponence eather approves it or invalidate it. The Instituts people were insisting that their work is scientifically at expected levels. It remains to bee seen. If it is true then the origin of Albanians is solved for good. We are from North as Greeks say about Dorians and Dorians are nothing else than ancient Albanians.

One part I recognize is the Laplanders of the very north in Norway. Just too close to the Llaps/Laberia in So. Albania.

As a matter of the fact times ago, could be in the crusades time, many Illyrians traumatized from struggles, tired and hungry migrated to north of Europe. Most of them settled in Scotia. That’s a believable hypotheses because are to many things that can mach with facts ,popular costume, (fustanellat ).Gajdea, the name of Albany and many common habits .This is not heard for the first time ,it is a old claim. They were too many and not all of them ended to Scotia in the way to there. And a another thing that I like to ad is that not to long ago, It could be few weeks ago a dead person founded somewhere in the snow ice top, of the Apennine Italy, was 5000 thousand years body ,after his DNA was done the result was same as an Ireland Body .
Everything need to be proved and albanian academy can not talk as we do.

The news was on Vision+ tv but as I said, there were more skeptics than supporters. The only one who supported the theory was Nerita Ceka but since he is not genetist it is subject to be taken with reserve. This was said in an international conference in Europa by Albanian genetists. If you have a way of searching vision+ archives there are the interviews and the news.

You will see even more videos in the future saying that you're even of Japanese stock.... as far as it is "prooved" you have nothing in common with Greeks..

No significant difference was observed between Albanians and most other Europeans, despite the fact that Albanians are clearly different from all other Indo-Europeans linguistically. We observe a general lack of genetic structure among Indo-European populations for both maternal and paternal polymorphisms, as well as low levels of correlation between linguistics and genetics, even though slightly more significant for the Y chromosome than for mtDNA. Altogether, our results show that the linguistic structure of continental Indo-European populations is not reflected in the variability of the mitochondrial and Y chromosome markers. This discrepancy could be due to very recent differentiation of Indo-European populations in Europe and/or substantial amounts of gene flow among these populations. Titre du document / Document title Genetic characterization of the historical Albanian ethnic minority of Calabria (Southern Italy) Auteur(s) / Author(s) TAGARELLI A. ; PIRO A. ; TAGARELLI G. ; LAGONIA P. ; BULO A. ; FALCHI A. ; VARESI L. ; VONA G. ; CALO C. M. ; Résumé / Abstract Three historical ethnic minorities are present in Calabria: Albanians, Greeks, and Occitans. The Albanian ethnic minority is the more populous, having settled in Calabria between the 15th and 17th centuries, and these populations are now located in the provinces of Cosenza and Catanzaro. In the present study the Albanian population structure is analyzed based on the allele frequencies of six classic genetic markers: ACP, GC, PGM1, AK, ADA, and 6PGD. The results show a significant heterogeneity between the Albanian population in Calabria and the population in Molise. Therefore the cultural and reproductive isolation of the Albanian ethnic minority of Calabria is related to a great genetic peculiarity. Moreover, the frequencies of some alleles, particularly those of the PGM*1W31 variant, and the analysis of the R matrix still show the actual peculiar genetic structure of the Albanians of Calabria, although the genetic flow is evident in the decrease of endogamy and in the increase in the degree of mixing. Portugal would seem, like Spain, to have a predominantly Mediterranean population. There does not seem to be any Alpine blood here. There is a slight mixture of Nordic blood, mainly in the coast towns. On the other hand, the Portuguese seem to be racially distinguished from the more homogeneous Mediterranean Spaniards by a heavier strain of that Negro blood which is recognizable, too, in Spain.11 Is this Negro strain to be referred only in greater part to a mixture brought about in the Portuguese African colonies; and have we to do here also with a Negro palaeolithic remnant driven into the extreme south-west? In any case the importation of black slaves into Portugal was formerly very heavy, and the Moorish dominion brought into Portugal, as it did into Spain, much 'African' blood, mainly of the Oriental, Hither Asiatic, and Negro races.
Italy on the whole shows an Alpine-Dinaric northern half with a slight Nordic and Mediterranean strain, and a Mediterranean southern half with a weak Hither Asiatic and Negro strain. The Dinaric race reaches from the eastern Alps into Italy, and goes through the north-eastern coast district, and in diminishing strength through the whole of Venetia down nearly to the Romagna. The Alpine race reaches from the north and north-west in diminishing strength down to near Rome, where the predominantly Mediterranean part of Italy begins. The Lucca district, however, appears as a predominantly Mediterranean island in the brachycephalic northern half of Italy, and the whole Ligurian coast has a strong Mediterranean admixture. The Nordic race is no longer found living in continuous, unbroken areas of settlement; the Nordic strain (which is perhaps 15 per cent. of the whole people) is most evident in Piedmont, about Milan, and in Venetia, but can be seen all over the Alpine area, and in the northern Apennines, even beyond Florence. In Toscana, also, and Umbria fair features are still found; in the Perugia district, especially, blue-eyed blondes are still comparatively frequent. It is remarkable that the blondes in the northern half of Italy are more frequent above the 400-metre level; here in the south the Nordic race must have withdrawn from the lowlands, which they found too warm, or have been thinned out in these lowlands, perhaps mainly by malaria. In Italy as a whole the percentage of blue-eyed blondes is 3, in Venetia it is 5.4. The islands of Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica (which belongs to France) belong to the predominantly Mediterranean southern half.
This Mediterranean south seems to be fairly homogeneous racially, although with a slight touch of Negro and Hither Asiatic blood like Spain. Hither Asiatic blood seems to show itself in southern Italy mainly in Salerno and Bari, in Sicily mainly about Syracuse and Girgenti. Sicily shows, too, a weak Oriental racial strain (from Arabian immigrants). Fair hair is still found at times in the former Lombard districts about Benevento; so, too, Malta still has 1 per cent. of blondes. In Zurrico, on Malta, rather a high number of blondes and blue eyes have even been recorded. Besides this slight touch of the Nordic one is struck by a rather strong Hither Asiatic strain in the predominantly Mediterranean population of Malta.
The regions of the Slovenes, Croats, Serbs, Montenegrins, and Albanians make up together an area of very strong Dinaric predominance. Other racial strains, however, are also evident in these peoples: Mediterranean blood has penetrated here from the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea, East Baltic blood from Eastern Europe, Nordic blood through various waves of Nordic comers. The northern Albanian Mirdit tribe, on the one hand, and the southern Albanians on the other, would seem to have a fairly strong Nordic strain; the same strain can be seen among the Serbs and the Slovenes.12 Through Albanian settlement Dinaric blood has come into Calabria (southern Italy); while these Albanians are said, too, to show a slight Nordic strain.

ad this is about the study that you mentioned on the top of the topic
According to the Tirana Genetics Laboratory results, the genetic mutation Delta F508 was found in 78% of a group Albanians tested randomly. Researchers say this supports the theory that we descended from the northern parts of the continent.
This was the first ever genetic research of this type in Albania. The testing was carried out using a group of 50/50 males and females. Obviously the results were somewhat unsuspected.
According to the researchers the genetic mutation Delta F508, is present at levels of 50% in the Mediterranean populations, meanwhile this same mutation is present at levels of over 70% in the northern European inhabitants. Therefore they concluded that our descent leans more on the northern side, without too many links to our Balkan neighbors. The researchers claimed that these results speak louder about our descent as northern-Europeans.
These results further sustain the theses of the Albanian scholar Eqerem Çabej, who found commonalities between our people and those of northern Europe. Also, according to the Albanian scholar Moikom Zeqo, thousands of years ago there were waves of migrations by the indo-european peoples toward the south of the Balkan peninsula, and it is very possible that Albanians are descendens of those tribes, relatives of the Germanic ones.
Personally I have still to see some more research done in this regard as the sample data is not considerable, nevertheless very interesting indeed

Borduras comment is more accurate than mine. This was what was claimed by genetists. Again this claim was made public in an European genetics conference in 1997. Genetists reconfirmed their findings with new tests two weeks ago. Time needed for the opponents to discredit or aprove these claims. But this is so far the most serious claim based with evidence from the history in our genes. It can not be thrown away by any one.If anyone want more ditails you can send an e-mail to Neritan Ceka or Moikom Zeqo.

To CAPTAINALBANIA! As I often said this are the genetic's Institut findings. Your conclusion of 97% monkey genes in humans is an exagaration. Genetic material is extensively used in crime scenes to find criminals and is one that can not be disputed. As long as the genetits are able to distinguish one person from another, are you saying that they can not distinguish a whole group? Think again captainAlbania! If the finding that we have the same Delta f508 mutation as Nordics have how did we get it? Unles few of them came down to Ballkans and formed Illyria. It can't be a coincidence that we have the same mutation in the same amount. Why don't Greeks and Italians have it? The only thing that can be disputed is the accuracy of the study. That's why I said from the begining, we have to wait for someone to oppose the theory so someone else can look at it to prove the accuracy. I repeat again this claim was made by Albanian genetists in an International conference of genetists in 1997. Ten years later no opposition. It was reafirmed in the new research by the Institut lately.

Just because we have one polymorphism in common with Upper Pealeolithic Northerners does not mean that we are nordic (which is a mediterranean sub-race by the way).
It probably means that our ancestors came from central europe and merged with the new mediterranean invaders from southern europe.
Most Albanians are Dinaric as classified by Carlton Coon, correct? According to him, Dinaric is a look created when reduced upper paleolithic types like Alpine mix with a Mediterranean type like Atlanto-meds or Nordic.
Perhaps northern Europe is the place where some of our DNA comes from, but to say that we have "Nordic" origin on the basis that we share 1 gene in the same frequency as northeners is absurd.

Not one mention of Serb gene .......... and yet we are closer then Italy or Croatia ... I reckon half of Albania has Serbian blood .... post WW2 ? There is no "Serb" gene. What were you expecting as a Serb gene. Serb isn't a race, its a nationality. Why would there be a gene in Serbs that wouldnt be in Croats, Bosniaks, Montenegrins and Slovenians? Since you all claim the same ancestry from the Serb and Croat tribes that came here from Persia you should all have a "Serb" gene, haha. Unfortunately it would be persian in origin and you would share the gene with the irano-afghans in Iran.
