South Africa 1–3 Serbia: Serbia Overpower South Africa With Tosic BraceBafana fell 3-1 to the Europeans thanks to a brace from Tosic and a goal from Lazovic, with Mphela getting a late consolation.South Africa hosted Serbia in Tshwane in an international friendly, as Bafana aimed to beat the tough Europeans on home soil. The South Africans were confident after a successful FIFA Confederations Cup run which allowed them to come fourth in the competition, playing well against the likes of Spain and Brazil, while winning over many of their critics along the way. Bafana had a similar squad to the one that represented the country at the Confederations Cup at their disposal, with Bernard Parker the main absence through injury. Serbia, who are ranked 14th in the world, did not bring all of their top stars to play Bafana, but they still looked formidable. Antic had drafted in three uncapped local based players in goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic and midfielders Radosav Petrovic and Marko Milinkovic. Antic left out his skipper, Dejan Stankovic of Inter Milan, plus his two wingers, Bosko Jankovic and Mitalem Sulejmani. The game in Tshwane saw the Europeans looking quiet and calm at first, observing the situation before putting the home side under any pressure. This approach gave Bafana a chance to attack, with the crowd getting behind their heroes and willing them on towards their target and in the 2nd minute a free kick from Mphela rocketed off the keeper onto a post and out, for the first opportunity of the match. By the half hour mark the score was stuck at 0-0, with neither side having a major attacking edge over the other. This would continue until the half time break, with a goalless score line frustrating the assembled crowd. The second half would produce a few changes to the scoreboard, with the Serbian half time talk doing wonders for the exploits of the visiting Europeans. In the 56th minute South Africa could no longer keep the Serbian’s at bay, and Manchester United striker Zoran Tosic gave them the advantage. The lead was soon extended in the 69th minute with a goal from Danko Lazovic, as South Africa began to wobble under the extended pressure from Serbia. The visiting side completed their trio of goals with Tosic’s second of the game in the 77th minute, ending South Africa’s hopes of getting a result in the encounter. Despite the heavy defeat only a few minutes away, Bafana was able to get a consolation for their efforts, with Katlego Mphela getting one back for the home side in injury time. After a few minutes of injury time the referee ended the match with the score at 3-1 for Serbia over South Africa.

vaauuuu Tosic...bas onako majstorski Zigic is irritating me. For the two last goals he seems totally disapointed (that is wasn't him scoring). Bit of an ugly side to his character.

Antic names Serbia squad Serbia coach Radomir Antic has named a 23-man squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Group 7 qualifier against France on 9 September in Belgrade which could virtually secure the hosts' ticket to next summer's finals. After seven of the ten qualifiers, Serbia lead Group 7 on 18 points, with France, who have played one game fewer, second on 13.
The winners of each of the nine groups in the Europe zone gain automatic entry to the South Africa 2010. The eight best second-placed finishers from each group will then compete in a two-legged play-off, with the continent's four remaining tickets at stake.
Victory for Serbia in Belgrade would give them 21 points and an eight-point lead on France, who would have three games remaining in which to claw back the deficit to Serbia, who would then have two games to play.

Escude scores own-goal as France draws 1-1 with Romania in World Cup qualifier
SAINT-DENIS, France — France likely will have to win a playoff for a spot in next year's World Cup after a disappointing 1-1 tie with Romania in a qualifier on Saturday night that left fans at Stade de France booing.
France looked in control after Thierry Henry's 48th-minute goal, but French defender Julien Escude slid in to intercept a cross seven minutes later and turned the ball past his own goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.
Les Bleus (4-1-2), the 1998 World Cup champion, are second in Group Seven with 14 points, four behind Serbia (6-1) heading into their meeting at Belgrade on Wednesday. The top team qualifies from each of the nine European groups, and the best eight second-place teams go to playoffs.
Romania (3-3-1) has little chance of qualifying.
France took the lead when Yoann Gourcuff took a corner kick and William Gallas headed the ball down to Henry, who poked it into the corner for the net for his 49th international goal.
Immediately after Romania's goal, France coach Raymond Domenech replaced Andre-Pierre Gignac with Franck Ribery and moved Nicolas Anelka to center forward.
Domenech then switched Anelka back to the right wing when he brought on Karim Benzema in the 73rd, prompting a brief exchange between Domenech and Anelka when the Chelsea striker did not seem to know where he was supposed to play.
Henry then had a headed goal disallowed for offside moments later -- the decision appeared to be correct. On Henry's goal, Gallas also seemed to push his defender in the back before nodding the ball into Henry's path.

Thank you very much to our Orthodox Romanian brothers! This will put France under even more pressure to attack. I don't actually know if that's a good or bad thing for the actual game but what it means is that Srbija can even loose this game & still finish first at the end which is a good option to have.
