How many non-Greeks are there in Greek province Macedonia? I have read contradicting information on internet: some say there are 100.000 Slavs (who consider themselves either Slavs, Macedonians or Bulgarians), some say there are 200.000 Slavs. How many Vlachs are there? Do all the Vlachs speak Aromanian or some Vlachs speak only Greek? I have read that most Aromanians in Greece are not in Macedonia but in Epirus. How many other non-Greeks (Turks, Gypsies, Albanians) are in Macedonia? Are there Bulgarian/"Macedonian" speaking Gypsies there? I know that in Greek Thrace there are Bulgarian-speaking Gypsies. Are there monolingual Greek-speaking Gypsies in Macedonia (or in Greece), Gypsies whose mother tongue is Greek? What is the total population of Macedonia? 2 million, 2.5 million?

well in macedonia there are slavophones of whom like a 1000 of them in a village in florina are sad of the greek goverment and say they are fyromskis ;D
the aromanians dont consider themselfs their own ethnicity, mostly the young people today dont speak vlach but the older know ,
i dont think you will find many turks in greek macedonia not native atleast but you can find turko phones like gagauz and capadocians
you wont find albanians native in macedonia either but immigrants yes , but there are some arvanit speaking villages spread around macedonia
as for gipsys i dont know for sure but i think the muslim gipsys speak turkish in thrace as for those who speak bulgarian those are probebly pomaks(muslim bulgarians) but they consider themselfs turks
and i would belive that the gipsys around greece speak greek and their own roma language cant answer for sure wich their mother tongue would be and the population in macedonia is around 2,5

The citizens of Macedonia around the world are 5 million at least. The biggest Greek organization in diaspora is the "Pan-Macedonian network" The citizens of Macedonia in Macedonia are 2,5 million Among them there are around 1 million Macedonians 1 million Refuggees from Asia Minor, Eastern Thrace and Pontus 500 thousand of all other Greeks. No data from organizations. But.. there are Epirots who came to build bridges, Cretans who left from the Macedonian Struggle, Vlachs, Gypsies etc I believe from all these groups in the 500 thousand population, Vlachs would represent 50-60% at least. Among the 1 million Dopioi Macedonians around 3,500 consider themselves as Fyromians. Thats the number of votes their political party took in the national elections. Among the 1 million Dopioi Macedonians around 200-300.000 live in western Macedonia and they speak also Bulgarian but they consider themselves as pure Greek who have nothing to do with the 3,500 voters of Rainbow Party and their Bulgarian (Fyromian) beliefs who also live in the western Macedonia, mainly in some villages scattered around Florina, Edessa, Ptolemaida and Kastoria. 700-800 thousand Dopioi Macedonians (Me and Arxileas belong in that group ) are not bilingual and they live mainly in central and eastern Macedonia. Thats a small and fast analysis..

Ok thanks tsompanos and basilmacedon. According to what you said at least 500.000 of the 2.500.000 Greek Macedonians are Slavs and Vlachs. I read on the internet that there are 500.000 Vlach in Greece (not only in Macedonia), 300.000 of whom still speak Vlach and that most of them are in Epirus.

Guys, this was a "fast" analysis without official data... That is what it figures to be since there are no official data. I dont insist on my numbers..... its more up or less... I believe.. Patrinos, maybe you're right. I'm not sure about the numbers. It was what i believe... but my beliefs can easily change on this issue.. I'm an open mind personality.. Serban "According to what you said at least 500.000 of the 2.500.000 Greek Macedonians are Slavs and Vlachs" --------------------------------------------------------------- I said that 50-60% of the 500 thousand are Vlachs and the rest 50% are Epirots, Cretans, Pelloponeseans, Gypsies and Slavs. The exact number of Slavs or the ones who feel Slavs is 3,600! Means... 3,600 out of the 500,000. . That is what I said and the only way you can figure it out is from the votes of Rainbow Political Party in the last elections. "I read on the internet that there are 500.000 Vlach in Greece (not only in Macedonia), 300.000 of whom still speak Vlach and that most of them are in Epirus." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I dont know since there are no official data... but 300,000 Vlachs speaking Vlach language seems far fetched.... We would have a commounication problem in Greece if that was a reality lol lol I'm sure some oldies still speak... but I doubt the new generations' knowledge of the idiom.. Unfortunately Vlach idiom, Arvanites idiom or any other idiom spoken in villages in Greece, in Creta or in Cyrpous sooner or later will be lost from the globalaisation.. Attica Greek will prevail since all the Mass Media are there and transmitt in Attica's "proper" Greek. So... even us in Thessaloniki, sooner of later we'll have to replace "souvlaki" with "kalamaki" and "katw" with "hamou".. lol lol I promise you I'll resist with all my heart!

About the 1 million refugees, among them are also from north thrace and sarakatsani and others that came from fyrom area but i dont know if you really can call the sarakatsani for refugees because they where nomads untill the 60's
