Prijateljstvo dugo osam vekova

Armenians from Serbia held memorial to victims of genocide in 1915.
The Dirge of in stone Cross
And the front of the church of St. Archangel Gavrilo in Zemun, in the place where the monument is the sign of memory of the pilots who died carrying help to disaster victims in the earthquake in Yerevan in 1988.
From mystic country, whose tradition reaches Noa to achieve that, according to biblical stories, after the flood, gotten off on the mountain of Ararat, Armenian lady Goar Harutjunjan 10 years, arrived in Belgrade. Here today living with two daughters, which equally are good at speaking Armenian and Serbian languages, and activist at Armenian woman's center "Armenka.
She lives for the future, but, as well as other Armenians, is not forgetting the past. Especially the great night of 24th April 1915. , when the then government of Turkey (current Western Armenia), thinking that's the way to solve the "Armenian question," ordered the slaughter in which the victim became two million of her fellow-citizens. Many Armenian organizations in the world and day-today struggle to Turkey to recognize the crime. In a sign of terrible memory the victims of genocide, Armenians in Armenia, and around the world gather every 24th April and light candles.
On the 90th anniversary of the genocide Armenians gathered in front of the church of St. Archangel Gavrilo in Zemun. Just the place to which the Armenian monument Haækar (cross stone), placed in a sign of memory to pilots who died in military transporter aircraft, carrying help to disaster victims in the earthquake in Yerevan in 1988. year. Set, as every year, started minutes of peace, and then followed parastos speech President Armenian community and cultural artistic program.
Friendship lasting eight centuries
Armenians, according to written records, arrived in Serbia is in the 13th century, exactly 1218th year. When the Saint Sava, viewing Armenia, noticed their churches, he decided to bring craftsmen to Serbia and built near Petrovac on (river) Mlava a monastery called Vitovnica. There is still ktitor's label printed on the old slavonic and Armenian. There is mention of Armenians in the battle of Kosovo (1389) - came with Turkish army, and when they learned that they should fight against Christians, they switched side and fought for Serbian Emperor Lazar and fought against the Turks. After the defeat of Serbian army, they withdrawn in the mountains around Sokobanja, where they built a monastery 'Jermenic', which still exists. In today's graveyard "Zeleni Venac" in Belgrade there was once Armenian cemetery and historical closeness between the two people is confirmed by Vuk Karadjic printing first book in the Armenian monastery in Vienna. - Kids, but also we are older, dressed in traditional national costumes, sang Armenian songs and we played our dances - explains Goar Harutjunjan, adding that as "special guests" this year had two police officers, who came to check on what kind if festivity that was, and then stayed here, festivity where national cuisine of Armenia was served.
Goar only regrets that Armenians in Serbia do not have the opportunity to socialize more often in Belgrade where they do not have even their own room.
- As a part of Armenia passed to Russia, during the time of Josip Broz many Armenians from Serbia went to Canada, America and France. Once the Armenian community had its building in street called 'Dalmatinska 78', which had an Armenian school, but the building was taken from us after war. Now we are trying to get it back in any way possible says Goar and added that, after the slaughter in 1915 the Armenian survivors went to the surrounding countries - from Greece, Macedonia and Croatia to Serbia, where even before that there was a strong Armenian diaspora. In Serbia today live around 1500 Armenians, and many more who became assimilated. Most of them living in Belgrade, Valjevo and Vrnjacka Banja, their number has significantly increased during nineties, when about 500 Armenian ladies, among which was Goar, was married to Serbs.
- And we have always lived as a great friends, we are similar people in terms of similar mentality and temperament. Common to us is the fight, pride and love for our country. Food is also similar, just that we use more spice, the only difference is that here it's raining more - explains young Armenian lady, in fluent Serbian language.

What do I think of when I think of Armenia? A scenic mountainous country. The oldest Christian church in the world. A great metal band called System of a Down. Dislike of Turks I think we have some solid common ground with Armenians.
