I thought the Magali idea when it was conceived was perfectly natural and logical considering the areas which Greece wanted was predominantly Greek. But since the events with Turkey and post-WWI those populations have mostly settled in Greece. This put an end to it ever having a chance to succeed. It makes no sense today unless something extreme occurred to change it.

On the contrary,if u concider the land thaT we took after the balkan wars and WWII,u may realise that the megalo idea was succesfully applied,at least partly. And lets not forget that 61% of Cyprus is free which could be concidered as the continuity of the same general plan. The greek owned territories grow constantly from 1912 to 1960...I think that we made it after all and lets hope that our beloved Constantinople will be greek orthodox again some day...

but its just sickening those stupid Turks chose to rob and destroy Aegean Anatolia from the Greeks.I mean, the Greeks had every right to it,with its history, heritage and most importantly its people stamped there.I hate the Turks for this among others!

The problem was that the Greek listened to the British to push east towards Ankara. If they would have just stuck to the Aegean coast I believe today we would still have Smyrna and every other Greek town, including Constantinople which was a out of Turkish control at the time. My family would still have the two homes my great grandfather built and his grave along with 1000's of others wouldn't lay under the main bus terminal of Izmir.

No.We could never keep western Asia minor. We should maintain a big army protecting it from the turks and we would have to face many conflicts. The troops should withdraw from Smyrne etc. and go to Adrianople. On the other hand, keeping eastern Thrace was a pretty realistic target. And our geostrategical value would be much more important today if we could do so.Anyway, Kemal wanted western Thrace as well,it was good that we were able to keep that.

We could keep Western Thrace easily. All the Greek army was there. and the Turkish army was in Anatolia. Unfortunately.. we have been forced by English to give it to Turks as a war payout. That was incredible stupid by our side. Give a region full of Greeks.... as a payout???! How stupid...
