Gorani are muslim Slaves who live in Kosovo and in Albania. They are mixed with Albanians. In Kosovo they are pro Serb and consider themself as Bosnians or Muslim or simply Gorani (now, some of them consider them self as Albanians (there are very few cases, this is not a massive phenomenon), like it was the case of all Kosovo Goranis before the census of 1981). In Albania they are pro Albanian and consider themself as true Albanians (they all have the Albanian flag in ther houses). I know several Goran families here, in Belgium, they are from Albania and only marry Albanians ! gorani from albania i doubt see themselves as albanians in the ethnic sense. gorani speak a slavic tongue. they might understand albanian aswell, but their slavic tongue is a major part of what has kept their identity alive . they might see themselves albanian by nationality, but not ethnically. gorani of albania see albania as their homeland because their villages are in albania, so subsequently they have embraced the country of albania by being citizens of this nation. the cultural similarities between albanians and gorani wouldve also helped this, so no doubt that gorani of albania would be hanging up flags of albania in their homes. they have no other home but albania.

I doubt most Gorani still speak their Slavic language in Albania. Especially since one of the biggest cities they live in is Shkoder, a city that has a population which has a rather hostile attitude towards Slavs/Slavic because of the turmoils of the last century. Most are very assimilated in Albania and wouldnt really see much a line between nationality and ethnicity. Meaning that if you asked them, they wouldnt say "Im Gorani-Albania"... they would just say "Albanian".

^ Of course man. That's obvious. Albanians are probably the most adept of any Balkanites (along with Greeks maybe) of assimilating/pressuring people to become part of their own. The Gorani's of Kosovo though quite clearly don't want anything to do with the Albanian identity. au.youtube.com/watch?v=0exiJeJ3f0sau.youtube.com/watch?v=q_WYwT3aOcI

^^ i have heard stories of kosovo albanians aggresively trying to assimilate the small turkish minority into albanians.
Rinia,.. its obvious the gorani who are living in skadar are very much assimilated, because they are not living in their homeland, the gora region. they moved out of there into the major town of albania's north. i would assume that gorani from the gora region in albania would still be speaking their slavic dialect, and keeping their traditions and identity. after all, they do live in the mountains, isloated from all the lowland dwellers.

Gorani are more or less Muslim Serbs. From what I can see, the only reason Albanians would try and claim them is because they themselves are part Gorani and have an Albanian identity and cant accept that they are part Serbian/Slavic.
Rinia, there are no Gorani in Shkoder, you must have them confused with Podgoricans who are Muslim Montenegrins. A lot, if not most, of Podgoricans are pro-Serb. Shkodrans look down on them, not because they are Slavs, but they're considered 'dirty', so we dont really mix with them.

Everyone knows that Greeks and Turks are the salad bowls of the Balkans. I don't know much about Gorani, but in Albania, Macedonian Slavs, Greeks, Serbs, and some Vlachs maintained their identity.

They're dialect is the same as Maco-Serbs from Sarplanina in Tetovo, Mk. I think they've been Serbs or Pro Serb since Dusan's times, but could have migrated their prior during the 1st Bulgarian Empire in the 10th century.
