WW2 camp survivors to sue Croatia 17 June 2008 | 16:28 | Source: Beta BANJA LUKA -- The Association of WW2 Camp Inmates from the Republic of Srpska has submitted to the European Court of Human Rights further material for its suit against Croatia.
Association President Gojko Kneževiæ said that the court in Strasbourg had recently informed the Association that the suit against Croatia, as the successor to the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) formed by the Nazis during the Second World War, had been accepted, Banja Luka electronic media reported today.
Kneževiæ said that the surviving camp inmates were demanding EUR 300mn in compensation from the Croatian state for genocide committed against Serb and other non-Croat civilians in concentration camps on the territory of the NDH during the war.

They are wasting their time. They'll never be able to prove that the Republic of Croatia is the successor state of the NDH. It clearly states in the constitution that RH is the successor state of the socialist republic of Croatia. The Croatian government is so confident of that fact that it rejected their demands for compensation a few months back.

Yes true, but as a nation and as a people, it's still nice to pay at least something to the survivors.

It looks like the courts have already accepted that as fact with Croatia today being a succesor to the NDH. I'm afraid this point will not be discussed in court. Read the article again.

I'm afraid this point will not be discussed in court. Read the article again. Very manipulative if u ask me. 1. Where does it say that any court, any judge for that matter determined Croatia the successor state of the NDH? 2. Has any judgment been made specifically on that issue? If so, can u provide it.? 3. Has any court held a hearing regarding this matter? If so what where the arguments for and against? Who represented the Croat side and who represented the serbs? Names etc? 4. You want us to believe that the court just casually took the word of a few serbs, just like that? 5. The court of human rights doesn't make pre-determined decisions, judgments, or legitimize accusations especially without proper procedure ie. weighing the arguments for both for and against, when accepting cases. Therefore, yes even if the court accepted the case, such a matter would without a doubt hear arguments from both parties on whether Croatia is the successor state of the NDH. This is where the serb side will trip up every time. 6. And lastly the statement that u put in bold is ambiguous to say the least. It doesn't specifically state that the court has accepted the case due to the fact that it believes Croatia is the successor of the NDH. The statement itself is ambiguous and doesn't provide any real evidence, and can be interpreted in many ways. Journalists open use such statement when they want the audience to agree with their point of view. I studied journalism and this form of writing so i have a certain level of knowledge in this area.

They just have to use statements Tudjman and Croat officials made about the NDH.

^^ No its actually quite difficult. Croatia's constitution is the highest authoritative document in the Republic of Croatia ... under which it was accepted into the UN where it clearly states that Croatia is the successor state of the Socialist state of Croatia. The UN accepted this and so did the 192 or so countries which make up that body.
Now to claim something different is impossible to say the least.
