Issue of Macedonia
Issue of Macedonia consists of a Greek side that claims that Macedonia as a name can only refer to Hellenic heritage as it has since before the days of Alexander the Great (Megas Alexandros) the man who spread Hellenism throughout western Asia and Egypt. This old and original Macedonia can be thus viewed as one of the cradles of Hellenism and on of the most staunchest strongholds. On the other side there is slavophone FYROM which calls itself Macedonia although it was Tito to have introduced this identity as nationality/ethnicity there in 1945 (Serbian scientists Cvijic in early 1900s was clear that those slavophones lacked ethic identity and just viewed themselves as simply being slavs rather then something else). Will Fyrom accept a compromise for a new name. Naming them as 'New Macedonia' should solve the problem as it would never be confused with old and original Greek Macedonia and since Fyrom in effect is New Macedonia distant from old one. By accepting such compromise Fyrom would also shield itself from justifiably negative attention it receives from Greece (which just might one day decide that the easiest course of events would be to adapt a strategy to hellenize Fyrom in order to shield itself). Cvijic viewed these slavophones as primarily Byzantine in culture and that Byzantine was the main cultural imprint this culture possesses. Add this to the fact that we are speaking of mainly local balkan population in terms of genetics and anthropology and Hellenization as a concept suddenly doesn't appear that alien. Keep the name as it is and perhaps you are asking for something you are not prepare to receive or are you!
Issue of Montenegro
Issue of Montenegro consists of a Serb side that claims that Montenegro as a name can only refer to Serb heritage as it has since before the days of Petrovic dynasty (most notable name being Njegos) who were all staunch Serb nationalists who dreamed of a greater unified Serbian state as it has been in pre-Ottoman times. This old and original Montenegro (almost never conquered by Turks and remaining as only remaining oasis of free Serbdom in Balkans) can be thus viewed as one of the cradles of balkan Serbdom (many if not most of Serbs claim distant origins from Montenegro or its vicinity) and as one of the most staunchest strongholds of Serbdom (at least until recently). On the other side there is new Montenegrin ethnicity which views itself as pure and only Montenegrins although it was Tito to have introduced this identity as nationality/ethnicity there in 1945 (time when being a Serb in Montenegro simply becomes unacceptable). Recently there has been a kind of revival of Serbdom within Montenegro as around 1/3 of its population views itself as Serb and almost 2/3 views speaking Serbian as their mother language. If the trend resumes itself most Montenegrins will again regard themselves as Serbs from Montenegro and this would effectively stop being an issue. Keep suppressing Serbs and perhaps you are asking for something you are not prepare to see or are you!
