Elisa Konofagou is a Greek biomedical engineer in the field of medical ultrasound. She is the Robert and Margaret Hariri Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Radiology (Physics) at Columbia University in New York.Konofagou is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and she received the NSF CAREER Award in 2007.

Education

Konofagou graduated with her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Paris VI University and master's degree from Imperial College in 1992 and 1993, respectively. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy in 1999 from the University of Houston for her research in elastography at the University of Texas Medical School. She completed postdoctoral research in elasticity-based monitoring of focused ultrasound therapy at Brigham and Women's Hospital.She received a Fulbright U.S. Inter-country Award in 2019.

Career

Research interests

Konofagou heads the Ultrasound Elasticity and Imaging Laboratory (UEIL), which works on developing novel ultrasound techniques for imaging and therapeutics. Her main interests are related to elasticity imaging, including harmonic motion imaging, pulse wave imaging, and electromechanical wave imaging. The clinical foci of the UEIL include breast, ligament, and myocardial elastography, as well as focused ultrasound therapy related to the blood-brain barrier. Konofagou maintains several clinical collaborations with the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Teaching

Konofagou was an instructor and postdoctoral fellow at Bringham Women's Hospital (Harvard Medical School) from 2002–2003. Subsequently, she gained assistant (2003) and associate (2009) professorship roles in the departments of radiology and biomedical engineering at Columbia University. She is currently a professor of biomedical engineering and radiology at Columbia. She also served as the graduate chair of biomedical engineering in 2015.

Antigone Costanda (Arabic: أنتيجون كوستان) (Greek: Αντιγόνη Κωνσταντά, born c. 1934 in Alexandria) is an Egyptian designer, model and beauty queen who won Miss World 1954.The pageant took place on October 18, 1954, in London, England with the participation of 16 contestants. In addition to Arabic, Costanda speaks Greek, English, Italian and French fluently. The Greek-Egyptian beauty was the first Miss Egypt candidate to win the title of Miss World for Egypt.

According to Eric Morley's 1967 book, "The Miss World Story", Costanda was positively beaming as she claimed that her victory was also for the Miss World 1953 second runner-up status of Marina Papaelia.

The following year, during the 1955 Miss World beauty pageant held in London, Costanda did not attend the event because of political hostilities between Egypt and Britain over the Suez Canal. British actress Eunice Gayson crowned Miss Venezuela as the new Miss World.

Prior to winning Miss World, Costanda was gaining experience in the modelling profession and was appearing in numerous publications. Winning Miss World further helped her to reach the top of her profession, becoming a successful model in the Middle East, France, Italy and Greece. Her career in later years moved into interior design. She ran a company designing the interior of business buildings. She was one of the judges at the Miss Egypt 2006 contest.

I am a vlah, and I believe that the vast majority of the mainland are not greeks. We dont have this Cypriot-Pontian-Cretan soul. We have many defeciencies as a culture.

Thats what you say!The majority of modern Greeks are of Byzantine ancestry and these people always tend to consider the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople as their spiritual leader.It is not a coincidence that the westeners were calling the Byzantine empire "imperium Graecorum".

And yes,we are able to assimilate foreigners and thats not a problem.We did so before and we will continue doing so.

Truth is usually somewhere between 0% and 100% no matter what you believe.Modern Greeks share some ancient Greek DNA with ancient Greeks and this is a fact proved by genetics.This is also true about the populations who share ancient Greek DNA in neighboring teritories of western Asia minor,south Balkans and south Italy.

TBH, i respect your opinion bro, but i never heard before of such a theory of Modern day Greeks. I mostly assumed that Modern Greeks are MOSTLY decedents of ancient Greeks but partially mixed with Slavs, Turks, Albos, Vlachs/Romanians and Romans (lets be honest Byzantine Empire was just Eastern Roman/Latin Empire) and everyone else who ever made direct contact with the Balkans.

Also ain't Vlachs just old name for Romanians anyway? (Romania was used to be called Wallachia = Vlachia)

I believe Arvanites are ethically not Albanians which exist as a nation for the past 100 years.

I believe the are albanophone Greeks.

Why would Byzantines invite foreign people to settle some depopulated areas of Greece.

Same people who are today known to be among the most nationalistic type of Greeks in Greece itself.

I don't believe the things can be viewed simplistically when it comes to Balkans.

St Gregorios the Theologist, Nazianzinos, 329 AD - 390 AD while in Constantinopole, he made some noise in his church (Agia Anastasia) and he heard from the local official : Silencio (silence).

Also note the toponyms, ppl's names and surnames back then in Kapadokia : deeply LATIN.

Crazy thing : Latins and whestos in general were ALREADY HATING THE EAST, while east was STILL LATIN...

Look i never denied that Byzantine was mostly built on Greek culture and that most inhabitants of the Empire were ethnic Greeks hence making Greek an official language of empire. But what i am refering too is that Royal Family of Byzantine Empire, even in times when it already got helenized, was still of Latin origin. First few centuries since the Establishing of Eastern Roman Empire, the official language was Latin here too just like at the Western Roman Empire. However due the Helenization process that Latin language got lost and replaced by Greek. That is what happens when Romans try to make another (Eastern Empire) in the territory full of Greeks.
