Not really.
It is best for Turkey to have good relations with the EU, but it is also a necessity for Turkey to build its own sphere of influence all around its borders.
For social and economic development, it is clear that one does not need to be the European or a member of some European club. Korea, Japan are good examples that Turkey could follow.
Even the case of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus point out that Turkey must have closer ties with the sphere of countries bordering the EU rather than sparing her efforts on EU membership.

Janny, I have to disagree with you, Korea, Japan, etc, they are under US umbrella...if that is lifted up, no social and no economic benefit...I think Turkey should join EU as soon as possible.

"Since when is a Bulgarian name is Romanian? Havent u heard of Ioan-Assen II, our glorious king of the Second Bulgarian Kingdome" Wellcome Ioane (Romanian for Ivan), I'm a rather new one myself (I was aless00, I changed to Vlaici recently). About those emperors there were much talking on this forum and I wouldn't light the discution again, on your forum... For me, this second Bulgarian empire stays to recall us our common destiny till then. Thracians, dacians, romanised, slavicised living in a kind of symbiosis, sharing probably the valleys and mountains as Admin puts, assimilating proto- bulgarians, cumans and each others, finaly separating by the natural border of the Danube...

"It should be the Balkans mountains not Danube, that's why there are so many Romanians now in BG till the Balkans. " ... till the Balkans, wow!? If for some centuries Moesia (Rumelia) might have been a reservoir of romanity gradualy replaced with the slavicised element) for the north Danube vlachs, that's history. There followed the ottoman globalisation machine. What matters to me is that the two thracians countries are together in EU. I wonder how the mentalities will change: crossing the Danube (in both directions) without an alienating feeling... And still, there are things that make you feel at home: names like Slatina, Zlatna, Prahova, Bistritza, Targoviste, etc. We must learn Russian (or another slav language) to understand their meaning... I read somewhere an interesting comment on that: the upper course of Bistritza would be named Repedea (the quick, rapid one)= slavs and vlachs sharing valleys and mountains.

You do have at least 250,000 Romanian origin people, you also label them as Vlachs...so there are many Romanians in Bulgaria

Bonnie, we dont have that number of Romanians or vlahs. We dont have them since at least half a century when via contracts we exchanged the population. I agree with vlaici. We have too much in common which is great

I think there are more Romanians, especially in Cadrilater. Maybe they were forced to say that are Bulgarians.

Well, as far as I know there is slight difference between vlachs and Romanians! Vlachs are the Romanians, Aromanians and Meglenoromanians. There are theories that they are one people, but Aromanians as far as I know think they are not Romanians. I am not expert but I thought there is difference between Romanian and Aromanian language too. I think that is the reason why the census had 2 options which the people should choose (Romanian and Vlach). In this way the Aromanians can choose only Vlach (if they think they arent Romanians). Dont u think its logical?

Vlach is an exonym. All Romanians are vlachs... Aromanians are also Romanians, it's the same nation with different people. In China or India you can find as many as 60 kind of people, it's still the same nation.
