Assyrians? Egyptians? These elements are dead for long time now...no one of them is there today...Cyprus has always been a centre of Hellenism...and it still is. Can you see any Pyramides in Cyprus? I can not. Its time to accept some fact dear desire and to stop to hide behind your small finger...

Wait a minute, first you talk about Cyprus being Greek since ancient times, now you say the ancient times don't matter because Cyprus is Greek?... make up your mind boy, and don't talk about subjects you don't have enough education in ok . I have seen those Elements (Egyptian) when I visited Cyprus, I have even seen dinasaur bones in Cyprus, yes can you believe it History still exists in TRNC

More info for you When the Arabs invaded Cyprus in 688, the emperor Justinian II and the caliph Abd al-Malik reached an unprecedented agreement. For the next 300 years, Cyprus was ruled jointly by both the Arabs and the Byzantines as a condominium, despite the nearly constant warfare between the two parties on the mainland. mixed cultures, and colours. Accept it.. it isn't a bad thing

In all fairness Desire...Kastor has a point. Today, there are no more assyrians, egyptians, ect.. We pretty much have the oldest continuity in the region ( language, self-consciousness ). And many ruins in cyprus to prove it. Im not saying TC's dont have a right to be there....im just saying that the island itself is justifiably greek in nature.

OK lets be just, So lets forget the Assyrians, Egyptians...
also lets forget the Franks (Lusignans) occupied the island, establishing the Kingdom of Cyprus. The relationship between the Cypriots and the Franks was never harmonious. They declared Latin the official language, later replacing it with French; much later, Greek was recognised as a second official language. In 1196, the Latin Church was established, and the Orthodox Cypriot Church experienced a series of religious persecutions. Maronites settled on Cyprus during the crusades and still maintain some villages in the North. we forget all the above and come to 1500...... up until the mid 1500's the Island was mainly Greek in culture, post 1500s it became Greek and Turkish in culture... finito.

seriously though...that island has gone through many foreign occupiers. The worse of them all if you ask me are the brits. They really knew how to stir up trouble between GC's and TC's. 30 yrs later...we are still trying to recover.

Good and also digest that the Ottomans re-opened all the banished and persecuted Orthodox Churches and allowed Greek to be spoken again..... Now if they hadn't who knows what Cyprus would have been today..... Oh yea I forgot the Brits (crusaders) ..forgetting them too

The Ottomans were also a mixed group. They started off with Turks, and then Greeks very early on.....

Yes...i am aware of that. Thats the only way to keep an empire for that long, is too incorporate everyone.
The ottomans also gained a lot of experience from the byzantines. It was almost like a company buy out by another company...if you know what i mean.

well If the Byzantines hadn't been so harsh on their own Greek people. The Ottomans wouldn't have gained so much power so fast. Every empire has its own faults...

Every Empire has its downfall...the West were the ones that weakened the Byzantines. It wasnt a matter of harsh policies on its own citizens...never heard that one. It was a number of variables and the fact that the turks were on the rise.
They saw the weakness and took advantage of it...The byzantines actually invited turks to the region. Talk about a trojan horse disaster....

Actually... The Byzantines harsh taxes were a big factor, in the Greeks joining the Ottomans.

Yea. So We have gone off Topic.
Cyprus belongs to both Turks and Greeks. The people who can't hack that can go suck an egg.
Although I hate the fact that Turkey sent loads of Kurdish villagers over there, Im hoping maybe 150 years later they can fully integrate (hasn't worked anywhere in the world) but Cyprus is a special magical place, fingers xsed.
