Celebrating and remembering (honouring) are two different things.
--edit--Albanians probably watched the movie 300 and wondered why the loss was 'celebrated'

Either way, aside from your guys bickering. My respects go to the soldiers that fought the Turks fiercely to get a draw and saving Europe for a while by deterring the Turks; not to mention the self-sacrifice they gave, and how bravely they fought for their belief.

In that day and age you were either a feudal lord, or peasant, so you were equally fucked, and equally harshly treated no matter who ruled you, the Balkans should stop with medieval myth making...

Anyways i laugh when people tease Serbs for celebrating defeats, its not about who wins or loses for us, its about the struggle. We could have picked 3 other battles in just that same decade in the 1380's where we defeated the Turks, but we chose the one where the Serbian army died for their cause. Serbs who die for their cause are more celebrated as heroes then the more successful ones that live a full life. That is why Czar Lazar is a bigger name then Czar Dusan, that is why Karadjordje is a bigger name then Milos Obrenovic, that is why Draza Mihailovic is a bigger name then our WW1 Vojvoda's (Zivojin Misic, Stepanovic etc).. simple as that

The people who actually tease us for "celebrating defeats" are ignorant of the difference between celebration and commemoration. Remembrance Day is a holiday in the west, but that doesn't make it a celebration. I think they do it on purpose actually, out of some subconscious bitterness towards the fact we have a history and struggles for freedom that are worth remembering.
Anywho, I'm arriving in Belgrade on June 27th, so I will be spending Vidovdan in the prestolnica. ;D

I started to read this forum in order to understand why all serbs hate Turks and all I could find was a bunch of racist who is obbsessed with history and ruins the future of the world. last month, I was expecting to learn some malice sides of ottomans. today, I strongly believe that ottomans did a great job at their times. I hope human beings will understand what peace means. Oh yea, and the Ottomans came to the Balkans to spread love and hummanity. You think Serbs are the first and only to hate the ottoman swines? I differentiate Turkish people today from the Ottomans.

Ottomans wanted to rule just like the serbs who lived in the same centuries. With all the enlightment and communism literature, you serbs are way back from ottomans. The fact of the matter is the ottomans came into the Balkans in hoards, initially against the will of the native inhabitants. You want to preach humanity and liberty, yet you critisize how others' have lived and justify the imposition of foreign ways. You're troll, just stop whatever it is that you're doing.

According to todays Turks, Kosovo war is just a boring history book. Everybody forgets it as soon as they graduate. As a matter of fact, our history books at the school tells that war with several sentences and jumps to 1453 as if it has no effect to anybody. That's why Turks didn't know what a serb literaly mean until Bosnia war. Croats were the guys who had invented tie, bosniaks were some neigbours who had migrated from somewhere who knows why and from where and of course there were yugoslavs whom we mostly admired because of their independence between two blocks. then came bosnian war and we met a crazy nation who want their revenge from Turks. yes, you are the craziest people in the world and you don't have any intellectual capacity to do some reading and researching. Whose being racist now, savage. And wtf do we care what the Turks are learning in their history classes? LOL!

You're troll, just stop whatever it is that you're doing. of course ottomans lived centuries ago. their perspective can't be same with modern time perspective. If you say that same age serbs wouldn't like to invade some more lands, you are a liar. I live in 21st century, why do you think that I critisize how others lived? This is the flaw in being a neo-liberitarian with "a cause". You ciritisize the Serbs with your irrelevent opinion, using that to justify the ottoman conquest into the Balkans. You are a pro-colonialist.

I wrote all those things so that you would understand what a miserable thing you celebrate. but you can't because your intellectuality is limited. this is not an insult neither. go read something and celebrate something better. Who doesn't read? You judge a whole society based on what exactly? Serbia/Serbs have a long list of briliant minds who have contributed to the world. You don't know me and you know nothing of Serbian heritage. Go wave your rainbow-flag somewhere in peace other than here. And don't forget your....

and I wonder why your traitor Lazar chose to enjoy heaven instead of saving a whole serb nation from turks? wouldn't those angels save some more serbian soldiers instead of an lazy aristocrat? You've got the wrong interpretation try reading a book.
