I watched Zona with other 'Serbians', and they didn't mention anything about not understanding the dialect. I can understand Bosnian Serbs not understanding as they don't live around Sumadija, but all Sumadinci understand 'south and eastern Serbs'.
You can find words still used in some Montenegrin villages that are still exclusively used with Torlaks (lani, rabota, kujna, dojdi, sabajlje, etc.); same also with older folks from Uzice (inhabitants settled by Montenegrins mainly).

Ljubotan, your personal affairs with Arsenije or other Bosnian which were born in America is none of our business. Facts: a) the love, compassion, community feeling, family bonds in Bosnian Serb country side, is a life-time experience, despite what you say (in Brcko, even totally divided as it is... i found kindness that i didn;t find anywhere else i went in the world (europe), greece of course included) b) the same values seem to exist in southern serbia as well, despite what others might say c) the above values were the reason that i got interested in those lands and i am writing here d) Zona Zamfirova as i said already, in BN TV (RepSrpska) was played WITHOUT SUBTITLES, for Christ's sake. e) if in Greece we were behaving like you guys, we would be split in 20, regarding language.

I as a Montenegrin have no problems whatsoever understanding these beloved Serb Torlaks and brother Ljubotan is right about many common words with us.

I really don't want to come across as trying to be divisive with Torlaks here. I mean it's actually Novi & Pyrros being offensive to all other Serbs trying to claim them as king sh!ts when they are actually the most recent aquisition to Serbian ethnicity. Anyway I struggled with Zona big time. I mean my Serbian is admittedly not super fluent but it's not too bad either... but the language they speak sounds quite different. Not just grammar wise but the emphasis and vocab. It sounds weird. I'd like to know how other more western Serbs, Bosniaks or Cro's go with understanding it?
... Actually interesting here how we have Admin with his Montenegrins claiming a new "Montenegrin language" when they speak what standard Serbian was based on and then you have the Torlaks who actually have a dfifferent language trying to proove how Serbian it actually is. It's f**ked up. It's like Montenegrins have a superiority complex and Torlaks & inferiority complex.

You hit it on the nail Arsenije, especially about the inferiority complex.

Arsenije, Vuk Karadzic's official accent might have been Jekavica, *BUT* official overall structure i think was from Valjevo. Also i think that those guys claim the authenticity regarding Serb tang.

AAdmin is a proud Serb from Montenegro who has never claimed anything Montenegrin as being anything other but integral part of Serb nation but who also doesn't feel people who are self-declared Montenegrins as a separate nationality (more like modern politically based personal taste since there is no historical basis for such views) since I have family members who are such.
Montenegrin is a separate Serbian identity for me just like Austrian is a separate German identity, Cypriot is a separate Greek identity or Moldovan is a separate Romanian identity.

Did you read Pavle Ivich above?, l guess you've also overlooked this like coon too. Would you consider Kajkavian a croatian dialect? and do you think it was a recent aquistion to croatian ethnicity?
I'm not making out that Torlaks are kings, but l'm telling you they are the same ethnicity as you.
Bulgars here say old church slavonic is old bulgarian, then by your reasoning, it must be. Belgrade was a Bulgarian city, then by your reasoning, it must be. Kosovo, vardar, south east serbia was once controlled by bulgars, then by your reasoning, they are not pure serbs. Bulgarian folk songs were found in Dalmatia and bosnia, so by Ioans reasoning, your a bulgar?. A Russian traveler in the 17th century called the serbian peasant farmers around Sarajevo, Bulgars, so by Ioans reasoning, your a bulgar! etc.....

Novi, you seem to consider yourself like the ultimate linguist. Ok then, do you want to make a sort of translation competition with me? Like someone posting Torlak sentences and me and you translating them online? I am Bulgarian from North-Eastern Bulgaria, nothing to do with this speech. You, on the other part are Torlak so you have a huge advantage. Not a fair competition at a first glance but I will take my chances. Deal?
