Well it's quite equally popular in all Balkan countries really except for Albania. I’d say it’s most popular in Balkan countries (Greece/Rom, former Yu & Hungary) followed by Mediterranean countries (Spain/Italy…), other slavic countries (Russia/Slovakia), other swimming nations (Netherlands,, Australia, US)… Rankings are here www.waterwalkers.ca/pb/wp_f2cd710f/wp_f2cd710f.html But why moreso popular in the Balkans, well because we are good at it mostly. A successful tradition was started and that has continued on I guess. All the team sports that require height & strength are the most popular in Serbia – basketball, waterpolo, volleyball. The south slav body type & mentality even is very suited to these sports. Serbia is land locked & actually has very few swimming pools. I remember reading a while ago participation is not very high actually. Probably a lot less than other countries that are not as good at it… I did a lot of competition swimming growing up & tried my hand at water polo not too long ago. It’s a brilliant sport to play. One of the best things I have ever done. It has to be one of the most overall physically demanding sports I’d imagine. Something like rugby in the water without any chance to stop and take a rest with your hands on your hips. It’s a massive adrenaline rush.

Just took a quick evaluation of the viewable faces (100 faces total) (finished within 1/6 of the first page since there are to many faces)
- Balkanic look ....................................(57 faces or 57%) - 'Greek' look .......................................(12 faces or 12%) (or look much more found in Greece then elsewhere in the vicinity) (To avoid Confusion Greeks mainly belong to two above types) - Mix. Slavic/Balkanic or depegmented Balkanic....(30 faces or 30%) - Slavic look .......................................(0 faces or 0%) - Turkic (Turanid) look .......................(1 faces or 1%) - 'Gypsy' or mixed Gypsy ...................(0 faces or 0%) - Nordic or Scandinavian ...................(0 faces or 0%) - Mixed or Unidentifiable ...................(0 faces or 0%)
*Turanids and 'Gypsies' here looks mixed with locals *Balkanic looks more crude and more influenced by UP (Upper Paleolithic with more exaggerated features.. one ex. is Dinarics) *Greek look is more med, more symmetrical and more refined.
So rough draft of the faces is that -over 1/2 looks Balkanic -almost 1/3 looks mixed Slavic/Balkanic or light Balkanic -0 looks Slavic -1/8 looks Greek -1/100 looks Asian
All in all 69% looks native (Balkanic and 'Greek') (Balkan look would be Thracians, Dorians and Illyrians) (Balkan look is basically Mountain Greeks ;D ;D ;D ) ('Greek' look would be Minoans etc) Additional 31% looks like deluted natives
---------------- Total 100% look native and partially or mainly native

Balkanic is basically local epirotics, dinarics, alpines, some norics with more exaggerated features associated with primarily Balkans. Greek (where I also include some Atlanto-meds) is simply local coastal med types and as other meds their features are more refines and symmetrical in comparison. Two are very easy to differentiate (and are even easier to differentiate from Slavic types like neo-danubians, Balkanian-Lappoid cross, and ladogan or lappoid looking people). I write for myself and I am not considered what others wrote but they were right in a way and that is why many Macedonian Slavs have Slavic appearance (more then slavophones around then). Balkanic look I would easily associate with Illyrians, Epirotes, Macedonians, Thracians and original Axcheans. 'Greek' look (for the lack of better word) is in case much more similar to lets say Minoans, Phoenicians, somewhat Ionians and basically coastal regions. I believe the two types lived for millenniums next to each other. It is not question of who is bastardized and who is not (I am afraid it is not that black and white as some would like it to be seen) but simply .... IS. Historically Balkanic look would be more associated with mountain people, conservatism and warlike tendencies while the Greek look is more associated with intellectualism and trade on coastal regions (compare ancient Balkanic Dorian Sparta with 'Greek' Ioanian Athens). Thats a big big big generalization. One thing you realize while studying classics is that you cannot generalize the situation of ancient Athens. It was an extremely unique city and one that is unparalleled in institution, scholarship and politics when looking at other cities. Its why most of the literature is Attic.
Even as Ionian, the city was extremely unique. So the division cannot be applied in any generalization. Corinthians were Dorian... yet their city was renown for.... its prostitutes.
Also, you cant compare the tribal, hostile and enclosed tribal culture of Albania or Montenegro, or Mani, with that of a city state with a greatly organized political structure. The militarism was instituted, largely because of the military necessities of having a subjugated population (Helots). Sparta can be compared with modern National-Socialist political/social structure... not tribal mountain tribes. Spartans, to put it simply, were a tad more complex...
If you want to make a more legit comparison... the mountain tribes of the Pashtuns have a very similar characteristics, or the Yemeni Arab tribes. Essentially, enclosed tribal, hierarchical, conservative tribes. Other groups are the Berbers of north Africa.

I said 30% are mixed balkanic but none I saw look purely slavic.
The second priest bellow looks balkanic (one above is a balkanic/atlantomed cross) and child bellow looks med with typical med eyes.

Serbs are mixed as there are different types of looks among them, just as anyone in the Balkans.

Boban YankovicI really felt sorrow when I watched the game where he hit his head, full of anger, typical Balkanian behavior.

Wasn't it other way around? I thought he was celebrating the victory and because he was happy he jumped, hit his head in basketball board and hurt his back upon his landing on the ground
