Is the Macedonian language pretty much the same thing as regular Bulgarian? It's supposed to be a lot closer to Bulgarian than Serbian, correct? All their surnames end in -ovski/evski, which isn't typically Serbian.

Not all of their names end on 'ski'. There are still many people's names that end on 'ov' and 'ev', somehow they survived the total introduction of 'ski' after 1945.

Well for the Serbs licking Byzantine butts - its nothing unusual but the Bulgars?
The Bulgars and Serbs WERE under Byzantine suzerainty. That means they had total independence but their kings had to get crowned in Constantinople etc. It was really more of a nominal thing and the territory was never directly annexed to the ERE.

Guys , sorry to intervene, but we fought with them sometimes. My great grand fathers in Macedonian Struggle in 1904 and my grandfathers in WW2 in 1944 were always saying "lets go and fight with the Buglarians" when they were preparing to get up in the mountains. Ofcourse they were uneducated peasants in a small village... but it must have been a reason for using the word "Bulgarians".. I believe.

Obviously they knew those Bulgarians well since they lived in nearby villages and they would have definitely known if their neighbors had called themselves anything other than Bulgarians.

^ Serban, possibly, but:
"It is understandable that the Turks preferred the patient and submissive Bulgar to the rebellious Serb or Greek. Since the Serbian principality had gained its freedom, the Turks regarded every Serb who declared himself to be such as a rebellious conspirator against the Turkish regime. This circumstance was widely exploited by the Bulgars in order to spread their propaganda among the Serbs outside the principality. Whoever was reluctant to become a Bulgar and persisted in calling himself a Serb was denounced to the Turks as conspiring with Serbia, and could expect severe punishment. Serbian priests were maltreated; permission was refused to open Serbian schools and those that were already in existence were closed; Serbian monasteries were destroyed. In order to avoid persecution, the population renounced its nationality and called itself Bulgarian........during the last thirty or forty years, propaganda has been rife in which the Bulgars have encouraged the Turks to act against Serbs and Greeks. Hence, throughout Macedonia, Thrace and Dardania, Slavs are considered to be Bulgars, which is quite incorrect. On the contrary, the Slavs in Macedonia are incapable of understanding a Bulgar from Jantra. If it is desired to designate these Slavs correctly, than they must be considered as Serbs, for the Serbian name is so popular among them that for example male children are sometimes christened "Srbin" [Serb]. the Serbian hero of the folk poems, Marko Kraljevich is obviously the Serbian ruler in Macedonia."
Alexander von Heksch "Die Donau von ihrem Ursprung bis an die Mundung",Leipzig,1885,pp.636
Don't you know anything about the turkish backed Bulgarian exarchos Serban and its influence from the period 1870 to 1912?

Tihomir was Bulgarian. Your thinking of a later Serb Tihomir from a different region in southern Serbia today

In Heksch statement there are several untrue statements
BUT at the time that book was published (1885 if we should believe Novi), BULGARIA had gained its freedom also, 7 years ago. So Turks could ve regarded every Bulgarian as " a rebellious conspirator against the Turkish regime".
Of course no proove here. Just some ala bala non sense. So 1885 minus 40 years, its 1843. The Exarchate would apear in 1851. There were no Bulgarian chruch in the 40ties. In 53 the people in Macedonia VOTED with over 95 percent to join the Exarchate.
And thats said by a German who, I supose, was fluent in Bulgarian. I mean, come on, its the same language, sure there is some differences, since they are different dialects, but the language is Bulgarian. In Bulgaria I dont know a person (Bulgarian) called Bulgarian. On the other hand I know Majarov, Vlachov etc. So actually that "proof" prove that fyrom people were Bulgarian.
That just prooves that they are Bulgarian, because Krali Marko is a very popular hero in all Bulgarian folk songs, even in Jantra.

Novi, why don't you and von Heksch go to a hooker for a relaxing blow-job and stop disgracing yourselves with such claims? I mean, von Heksch is probably dead. Go and help yourself.

^ well what do i say, these are the evidences. I'm sorry that it goes against mainstream thinking, its something that needs to be addressed and *cleared*.
Ruse, establishing the exarchate opened up alot of opportunities for spreading Bulgarian influence in all serbian lands under Turkish rule.
Carl Ritter:
"With the creation of the Exarchate, the Bulgarian name once more acquired official significance".

Carl Ritter is right, because if the Eharchate wasnt created Northern Bulgaria would ve been Romanian, Southern - Greek and Western - Serb. In a way it managed to save the ethnic Bulgarian lands from the neighbours propaganda. But the Exarchate never acted on Serbian Lands. Never. On the contrary u stole our lands, because Austia took yours: Bosnia etc. As u ve seen, Skopie and Ohrid voted with over 95 percent for joining the Exarchate 2 YEARS AFTER THE EXARCHATE. THERE WAS NO TIME FOR YOUR SUPPOSED BRAINWASHING!They were never Serbs.

Well in reality the Exarchate was "operational for max 1851-1887 (36 years), because after the restoration of Bulgaria it would ve been dangerous to be a member. But u seem to forget Skopie and Ohrid voted with over 90 percent to join the Exarchate in 1853. So they were never brainwashed. U seem to forget it was a Macedonian that was the father of Bulgarian national revival.

Novi Pazar "Hence, throughout Macedonia, Thrace and Dardania, Slavs are considered to be Bulgars, which is quite incorrect." --------------------------------------------------------------- Quite possible... they were uneducated and simple peasants as I said... so..... who knows.. it is a possibility too.

Macedonians are Bulgarians and if anyone that ever been to Macedonia will know. In macedonia the church's are all of Bulgarian origin and the Bulgars spread the religion to the country. Macedonia is Albanian/Bulgarian.
