Two weeks ago,I saw this award winning documentary on BBC about Gypsies in Europe.
From watching that,I now know more about the European hatred for Gypsies.
The show focused on Romanian-Gypsies in Spain,Italy and Romania.
These Gypsy kids who go out and steal are told to do so by their parents from a young age.And most of them dont see anything wrong with it.The film maker interviewed them at their camps in Spain and their response was that there's nothing wrong with stealing. They just shrugged that it was like no big deal.
But there was one scene where the film maker asked this little Gypsy boy at some welfare place of what he did in the day before he came there and whether he got any money. The boy said his mom made him did it and he said he didnt like it.He was upset and about to cry.
The documentary filmed kids in the city bothering or harrassing people at ATMs getting their money out. Some even snatched the money as it got out of the machine. But most just pushed the kids away. Some kids did it on their own. While others did it with an another older kid nearby directing them.
There were even many scenes of these kids opening peoples bag as they were walking in public to take out their wallets. What I found amazing was that many of these people just walked and werent aware of it.Those that were, pushed off the kid.
In Rome I think, the film maker said these Gypsy kids there can rake hundreds of thousands of Euros in a month if I'm not mistaken from stealing and begging.
There, the film maker interviewed the deputy mayor of the city. The deputy mayor said that Gypsies dont understand the concept of work.He said when you go to their camps, you find men sitting down playing cards while the kids and women are doing the work. And he said that people take actions against them or critisize them, they are called racists.
I cant remember everything the docu showed. For Romania, they show this Gypsy patriach who had big houses and I think was involved in crime. Also showed was a Gypsy wedding involving a teenager and a Gypsies being evicted by authorities at their camp site.
My description here sounds boring. But the docu was intresting.
