I was prompted to start this topic after thinking a bit about new members stance on being 'ethicless', as he put it, and then thinking back of certain other members.
1) New member called 'Why?' chooses to be ethnicless individual from Albania.
2) Krivo was initially a die hard Montenegrin nationalist without much sympathy for anything Serb and all Serbs disliked him with passion it seemed during that phase. Then he had a Serb transformation and he went into another emotional extreme where now Serbs are viewed by him as almost spotless (two obvious emotional extremes). Even the sheer probability of Serb name being of Sarmatian origin drives him to connect on any and every level possible Balkan Serbs with Sarmatians / Alans / Ossetians. In 1st phase he was very much sympathetic to Albbanians and in second phase he was anything but.
3) Pyrros was back in the day a staunch die hard Hellenic nationalist at the early stages of Illyria forums (roughly 2002). Then many years passed by without an even glimpse of presence from him. He resurfaces recently only to be married to a Bosnian Serb lady, with apparent anti-(modern)Hellenic views and obvious pro-Serb bias clearly reminiscent of any serb ultra-nationalist. Dislike for Albanians was maintained in both phases and thus remains as a constant.
4) There were numerous other members in Illyria Forums who (a) although belonging to a certain ethnicity de-facto acted as if they were members of the so called opposing ethnicity. (b) Some displayed hostility towards their own during this and (c) some even assumed identity of long extinct ethnicities that they connected to modern people from which they are derived.
5) Since this will come up I will perhaps state myself as an example although I am certainly a rather mild case in comparison to others. I am a Montenegrin Serb that is certainly content with my Serb origins and I do not have any negative feelings towards anything Serb on any level whatsoever. But since I have investigated certain topics over years (such as anthropology, genetics etc) it appears to me that Balkan people are related to each other far more then to anyone outside Balkans. Our balkanoid divisions are rather artificial to me at this point. They are carefully manipulated by outsiders to keep us centered on each other. Before we were what we are today we lived in the same area for a long time. Our ancestors were under Latin and, oldest detectable, Hellenic influence. Since oldest detectable Balkan influence is without any doubt Hellenic I regard ancient Greece as our cradle. Therefore I regard term Greek/Hellenic as all encompassing for entire Balkans and that which supersedes modern ethnicities thus it is to me a supra identity or unifying Balkan identity that stems from its origins. To me I see no conflict with being a Serb and not regarding anything Hellenic as being foreign. To me that is no more conflicting then I would find a conflict in a fact that any given person has two names, any given at birth (thus more recent) and one given by its origin (thus more distant). *The Greek supra identity is to me not the same as modern Greek ethnicity as many seem to confuse.
I am not trying to judge anyone here. That is not the purpose of this post. It is just to analyze how solid is the mental foundation of an ethnicity contained inside of an individual.
Any given individual here appears to unquestionably follow the path that has been drown for them while a minuscule minority within the same group seem to rebel and take opposing view. Both appear to take more extreme positions derived from their emotion based perception. Were a given Albanian, Serb or a Greek born in a neighboring ethnicity he/she would have been equally stubborn and emotionally involved and close-minded against opposing views. Literally a handful are capable of being truly reasoned individuals (examples from past formers are ApollonGRE and Bible Riot) who should be used as inspirational guiding light for how a enlightened Balkanian should become.
Is this all but an example of glass house or place that is more illusionary then real, more manipulated then actually materialized?
To be honest as far as I am concerned it seems illusionary as it appears to relate only to a state of mind (dictated by ones emotions) rather then anything concrete. If one can switch Balkan ethnicities at will then how concrete can such ethnicity be. Ethnicity that in itself is mutating and is obviously recent (at most 200 years old as we know them in their current form).
Is illusion the actual reason for the hostility?
(Hostility and overall hate decreases substantially our ability to reason and therefore makes us easy prey for mental manipulation conducted by those who have carefully orchestrated such event to occur)
What is your take on this?
