This discussion has got out of hand, lol.
Let's first deal with our own concerns, and do away with these modern colonialist/lobbyist, we do NOT need them!!

World union ? HAAAAA only when Godzilla appears or when Star Ship Enterprise fly's above the heavens now beam yourself out of here and live long and prosper Not too much of a fan of a World Union either, but a Balkan union is different. We have a lot in common, history and culture is the start. Why look at the past to determine our future? This doesn't make any sense at all. We must look forward and past the pain, and anguish we all claim to have caused to each other, to have a brighter future. This is the ONLY way. The potential is limitless if we outgrow what our ancestors have been through already. There is a reason why they went throught what they did, and fought for what they fought for and this is because they didn't want their offspring (US) to go through the same thing. Every attack we make at each other, whether verbal or physical, is an attack on our own blood, our own roots, our own ancestors and our own history.

You guys are plain wrong. It is just two pages of bullsh.it you have posted. Arsenije is right. Fvck your unions and lack of ethnicities. Your geothermal and whatever analysis as well. I am Bulgarian. No matter what my DNA says and who I am closer to, I want to remain Bulgarian and support whatever this means. I want to feel Bulgarian and suffer or celebrate whenever my country failed or made something great. You are just a bunch of useless quasy-philosophers.

You really should re-concider posting something when you know yourself, that you have no clue on the subject. So, be careful who you are calling wrong.
You can say fuuck geothermal energy all you want, but that won’t change the reality that the Balkans alone, can power the world. We make ourselves dependant on foreigners when we don’t have to, we make ourselves seem small when we’re not, we are buying back resources that belong to us when we don’t have to. The west knows this, which is why their presence in the Balkans is vital.
If you wish to live under their occupation, you go ahead, and fight for your freedom under the democratic bandwagon. But I believe it’s time we move forward, we have settled ourselves in pain for far too long. There is one solution, and only one that can bring true peace. It’s up to us to start thinking about it.
No one is asking you to throw your Bulgarian heritage away, and this won’t be the point. We will embrace our differences, and recognize our similarities. This is the point.

Your article, mate, does not even consider Bulgaria or Romania or Greece as part of the Balkans. Second, we can not power the world, unless the world needs alcohol evaporations as a source of energy.
Sorry to disappoint you man but no matter how smart we are (and I believe that the average Balkanian is smarter than the average Westerner) we need foreign investment to keep our economies going, regardless if you like it or not, It is simply the reality. And in countless times in history we have proved we can not cope by ourselves. Again, I don't like a bit but this is the reality.
Look, Uz, nobody here (well, a few exceptions may be) denies our similarities. This, however, doesn't stop us from hating each other with a passion. A deep passion that you won't see anywhere in the world. So the first step is to stop hating each other, and I don't see this happening anytime soon.

Geothermal is one example. The Balkans, including Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria hold huge amounts of resources. The reason why I use geothermal as an example is because this energy source alone can provide clean energy for at least the next thousand years. No one is talking about that, why? Yes, maybe the average balkanian is smarter than the common westerner, but does the reality show this? How come these “less” smarter people are running our show? Think about this. You said it; “So the first step is to stop hating each other” – It’s starts with you tho.

Because this clean energy costs the world and its mother, that's why. It is something like thrice the price of nuclear or power plant energy.
I have thought about this and come to the conclusion that we it is all in our mentality. As individuals we are great, as a team we are crap and in adition, we are unable to follow persons with brighter ideas just because we are never able to get used to the thought they are cleverer than us. The Balkan mentality mate. It is in our genes.
Not with me, my friend. I am in no way the most hateful person in the Balkans.

The biggest cost is drilling. The exploration has already been done, it’s already known exactly where it is.
Well I am glad that you have come to the conclusion of our mentality. Bravo.
Isn’t what you are stating directly supporting change? Change, perhaps in line with what I am talking about?
I didn’t mean you, directly. In no way was I implying that you are hateful. I mean change starts with “YOU” the individual being told this, which is essentially any individual. Nothing can ever happen; innless it starts with the few. From the few, it grows. This is how a movement works.

I think ancient greek should be taught to all balkanians for 1 specific reason. Literature gets lost in translation, and they'rs golden knowledge in ancient greek literature. The hisotry itself, isn't more important than anyone elses. I think all the peoples of the Balkans should have some knowledge of their "neighbours", and what their accomplishements are. Many great people, great minds, amazing ideas have come from the Balkans. And guess what? lol ... most of them have been exploited by western influences. See the problem here is, at least as far as history is concerned, these great minds are mostly known as Greek. So this union would only benefit Greece not so much the other countries. I'd rather have a union with Russia. Greeks are a lovely people I'm sure, but they pose a threat to everyone in the balkans just by existing so NO union NEVER!

Take it easy Emer, I am only talking about Ancient Greek Literature. Philosophys, drama, stories, plays.... these are all golden peices that have been lost in translation.
Any history directed for nationalism, is ONE-sides(story). Thats all.

Isn't ancient Greek like Latin, or is it still spoken? You're right about literature being lost in translation, I guess that's why I want a union with Russia so Russian can be taught and then everyone can read Dostoyevsky in his original form.

You can still learn Russian. Regardless of with whom you are united with.
And how do greeks pose a threat? What makes you think this will only benefit them?

The same can be said about ancient Greek. Besides most people don't read at all, in the balkans it's very rare, then you force them to learn an ancient language so they can read in that language, another war might break out.

No one is forcing anybody, its an option.
I just think all the people of the Balkans, should at least learn each other's languages. Greek, Albanian, Serbian, Bulgarian, hungarian etc.... No one has to learn them all, its just gives the person a pretty good advantage.

An advantage on what? In the future everyone will be speaking Chinese, now everyone speaks English. It's all about individualism these days, it's what it was about in ancient Greece actually, that's why they were so divided too. Unity is nice in theory, in practice people are deceiving and backstabbing.

Post by uz on Mar 7, 2011 20:05:38 GMT -5
People are decieving and backstabbing for their own reason. You and I don't need to be like this.
The only reason why Unity is a "theory" is because it is a strong one, a theory that has been proven successful so many times in history.
Language is important, especailly for Balkan people. We have used language to seperate ourselves. Now let's use it to bring ourselves together.
As I have stated and observed from before; A serb who speaks Albanian will have no trouble assimilating in Albania, an Albanian who speaks Serbian, will not have any trouble assimilating in Serbia. Why? Not just b/c of language connection, but mainly because of the Balkan connection we all carry. We know each other very well. We know what makes the other tick, we know how to feed into people, and we know how to get in each others head. We have a common connection, than any foriegner or tourist will see. Westeners I know, that have visited multiple places in the Balkans will say, that there is indeed a strong simmiliarity and connection between all the peoples.

To much blood has been spilt to just go now and hug each other, takes time for the wound to heal. In hundered years form now maybe but not now even thou we know EU will do just that.
Why any sane person would whant to lose their language to Greek.

WOW ... do you guys actually read the posts, or skim through specific words and make up your own sentences?
Nowhere did I state that we loose our languages.
I can see how ignorance alone may handicap us for another 100 years.

A union can only exist when nationalism and religiosity are things of the past.
