The Bulgarians have started a new conflict against Romania. After Steaua beat CSKA Sofia 2-0, the Bulgarians have done the following:
1. The owner of CSKA insulted two of the Gypsies playing for Steaua, saying they could work as garbagemen for his company in Bulgaria.
2. The Bulgarian press initially said the matches were fixed and would both end in a tie, after which the Bulgarians would qualify on penalties.
3. The Bulgarian press spread lies in order to unbalance the Romanian team; the latest lie was that two of Steaua's subordinates ordered prostitutes at their luxury hotel in Sofia for the whole team.
We reacted like gentleman. Becali, the owner of Steaua, refused to insult the Bulgarian team. One of our Rroma politicians, Madalin Vlaicu, said he wasn't surprised by the Bulgarian xenophobic and racist behavior, since this seems to be the order of the day in Bulgaria. He added by saying that many Romanians vacationing in Bulgaria have experienced discrimination, abuse and intimidation.
The ProTV commentators, as well as Becali, warned the Romanian fans from traveling to Sofia, since the Bulgarian police might stop them on the motorway and ask for bribes; the fans might become violent--as they have in the past against Romanians--and they might steal their cars, or at best, vandalize them. The journalists warned that if one still chooses to travel to Bulgaria, they should be wary of their surrounding and keep an extra eye on their valuables. No one should leave anything of value in their hotelroom since the maids--or other Bulgarians--might break in and steal them.
It is time to wake up and smell the roses. We got enemies at our southern border.
The return game between Steaua and CSKA Sofia is being played tomorrow.
