No independence — all agreements to be respected"NEW YORK -- It is out of the question for Serbia to recognize Kosovo and Metohija as independent, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić said in New York on Tuesday. Nikolić conceded that his speech was "strong", but noted that he "had to say it clearly to everybody" that the Serbian authorities will respect everything that has been achieved in the Belgrade-Priština dialogue thus far - but that they would not do anything more than that. Not only Mrs. (Catherine) Ashton - there is nobody in the world who could influence me to censor myself now, and speak what I think might be acceptable to someone from abroad."Nikolić had this message for Thaci - that he should consider whether his goal was to deceive his citizens that they had a state, to then arrive to the UN headquarters as a guest and sit in the gallery because he could not take part in the work of the UN. as long as the Security Council is the way it is, and the UN Charter what it is, the so-called Kosovo cannot become a member of the UN, and he (Thaci) can never sit in this hall as a member."www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2012&mm=09&dd=25&nav_id=82357

I'll bite ....
its ironic that the new regime has the balls ...where and what were they doing when the UN was reprimanding serbia to stop its criminal maneuvers/war on the people ??
serbia has un seats and still gets bombed for 78 day ...great seat with vibrating capacity at the touch of a button
the new regime in serbia should not be allowed to enter NYC imo
and about niko meeting Obama briefly ...hahahhahhha and insulting
his speech and mostly his side comments are there to entertain the serbian people nothing more nothing less .....

lol ... b/c "independant Kosovo" is not being respected?
Well fortunately opinions don't matter, policy does. Nikolic is the President of Serbia (a legitamite country) and it is his duty to respect Serbia's Constitution over anything else, while obliging to UN protocols. Thaci is a nobody - Kosovo is NATO-occupied/disputed territory - the UN agrees.
You should ask yourself...
Why hasn't Brussels once and for all confirmed straight forward that Serbia needs to recognize Kosovo in order to enter the EU?
(considering all the argumens you come up with - why doesn't Brussels agree with you...)
it was meant for the Serbian people absolutely. Serbs needs to know where and how he stands. Nikolic made it clear not only to Serbs but to the world as well. Swallow it.

"However, Nikolić had this message for Thaci - that he should consider whether his goal was to deceive his citizens that they had a state, to then arrive to the UN headquarters as a guest and sit in the gallery because he could not take part in the work of the UN." "I think he should think about what has been achieved thus far, what more could be achieved. Serbia is ready to discuss everything based on the UN Charter and (UN Security Council) Resolution 1244. But, obviously, as long as the Security Council is the way it is, and the UN Charter what it is, the so-called Kosovo cannot become a member of the UN, and he (Thaci) can never sit in this hall as a member." guys question ...... was this said in his speech or on the sidelines or to b92 reporters ?? bcs I cant tell and I think you cant either oh and stop being so euphoric ....it wasnt all that simply same serbian rhetoric or rhetorisism aamof ....bro Pyrros could give a better speech

Serbian diplomacy faced a potential dilemma on Friday, after top Kosovo and Serbian officials confirmed that they both intend to attend the same banquet organised by Queen Elizabeth II in London's Guildhall to honour the beginning of the Olympic Games.
Hashim Thaci "will be present together with 180 other statesmen from around the world," the Kosovo Prime Minister's office told Balkan Insight. Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga will also attend the royal event with Thaci.

President Tomislav Nikolic told the UN General Assembly on Tuesday that while Serbia would never recognize the independence of Kosovo, Belgrade was "committed to achieving a lasting peace between Serbs and Albanians".

“We will only join EU with Kosovo”“It is not fair to shift the burden of the EU integration to Kosovo Serbs, to make them some sort of a burden for Serbia and people who stand in the way of our future and progress. We will either join the EU together or we will not join it at all,” Vulin told Tanjug. www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2012&mm=09&dd=30&nav_id=82433Been awhile since someone said that, I was getting worried

This is what I want from Nikolic: Sign a deal with Germany stating that Serbia will not get an endorsement for EU membership unless it recognises the Pristina regime as independent and its territory as not Serbia's.
No good will come from EU membership. All it'll do is bring about taxes, regulations and, most importantly, inflation. Lots and lots of inflation. Anybody who wants Serb nations to join the EU either hate Serbdom or are ignorant of economics.
